South Lake Tahoe no longer a part of Hot August Nights

For the past several years, South Lake Tahoe has been a part of Hot August Nights with a few days of local show and shines, cruises and concerts prior to the big annual event in Reno.

This is no longer the case.

Without funding or a local venue to take on the "South Lake Tahoe Experience," Hot August Nights is bypassing the lake in 2015.

"Hot August Nights continues to be a signature event for Reno, but the South Tahoe Experience event did not prove to have growth potential or the desired economic impact for us and the availability of appropriate venues was limited," said Carol Chaplin, Executive Director of Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority (LTVA). "Both the LTVA and the Hot August Nights organizers gave it a good run and we enjoyed the partnership."

Councilman Tom Davis, who was instrumental in putting the event together in 2014 after MontBleu pulled out of the event at the last minute, said he thought the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino was going to take it on this year.

"The event brought in revenue and people, so it's sad to see it go," Davis said. "Everyone was fantastic to work with. Their volunteers stayed in our hotels and ate in our restaurants."

Davis said logistically, the split venues in 2014 didn't work out. Some events were held at Heavenly Village while others were on Ski Run Blvd.

"LTVA didn't see big value in the event," Davis added.
