City hires new Development Services Director

The City of South Lake Tahoe has hired a new Development Services Director to replace Shawna Brekke-Read, who left the position in December after a year on the job.

City Manager Nancy Kerry today announced the selection of Kevin Fabino for the position. Fabino will be leaving his job as the head of the City of Reedley's Planning, Building and Engineering Divisions and will start the new job in South Lake Tahoe later this month.

In announcing the selection, Kerry said: “Kevin brings a wealth of knowledge and professional expertise to the City’s Development Services Department to complement a talented team of employees. I am very excited to have Kevin become a member of the City team. He will be a great asset in leading the City forward in a very busy building season. We are also thrilled to be bringing another family to South Lake Tahoe as Kevin will be joined by his wife and children.”

Mr. Fabino brings more than 30 years of work experience at the local government level. While with the City of Reedley, he was responsible for leading the day-to-day activities of the Planning, Building and Engineering Divisions, and economic development program. During his tenure he built an effective team focused on customer service, processing efficiency and where creativity and innovation are utilized to find solutions.

He played a significant role in the City of Reedley’s General Plan 2030 Update, which was recognized for its stewardship through a sustainable planning and policy framework. Since its adoption, there have been over 40 policy and legislative initiatives brought forward to implement that Plan.

Fabino has earned a Master’s Degree in Public Administration from California State University, Fresno. He is professionally active through his affiliations with the American Planning Association and Association of Environmental Professionals.

“I am deeply humbled and at the same time very excited about this opportunity to serve the community of South Lake Tahoe. I'm eager to get started, immediately working to listen, to foster partnerships, and above all else, to contribute to the quality of life for our entire community," said Fabino.
