City hires new Development Services Director

The City of South Lake Tahoe has hired a new Development Services Director to replace Shawna Brekke-Read, who left the position in December after a year on the job.
City Manager Nancy Kerry today announced the selection of Kevin Fabino for the position. Fabino will be leaving his job as the head of the City of Reedley's Planning, Building and Engineering Divisions and will start the new job in South Lake Tahoe later this month.

The City of South Lake Tahoe is now without their Development Services Director after Shawna Brekke-Read left the position in December.
Brekke-Read was in the position just over a year after leaving the Town of Moraga in 2014 where she served as their Planning Director.
Her husband Don, who is a middle school teacher, had stayed behind in the Bay Area after she accepted the new position. According to City of South Lake Tahoe City Manager Nancy Kerry, Brekke-Read wanted to move back to the Bay Area to be with her husband.
The City has started recruiting for the vacant position.
TRPA approves Tahoe Valley Area Plan

The Governing Board of the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency today unanimously approved the Tahoe Valley Area Plan the City of South Lake Tahoe created to guide community revitalization and environmental restoration in a district centered around the “Y” intersection of Highways 89 and 50.
City of South Lake Tahoe wants to create long term occupancy ordinance

Motels and hotels being used for long term occupancy is a problem across the country and South Lake Tahoe is no different.
Of the 120 motels and hotels in the city limits, 58 of them are being used for long term occupancy. 1,300 rooms are now rented for long periods of time. These units were not built for people to live in long term as there is no refrigeration or cooking facilities, and many times there are families living in a room meant for just two people for a night or two.
New Development Services Director named for City of South Lake Tahoe

Shawna Brekke-Read has been named the City of South Lake Tahoe's new Development Services Director. She is heading to the Sierra from the Bay Area where she has been the Town of Moraga's Planning Director for the last three years.
City Manager Nancy Kerry made the announcement Thursday. “I am very pleased to announce the selection of Shawna Brekke-Read to join the City’s organization leadership team. We are fortunate to recruit a professional of her caliber, experience and tenacity. I am confident Ms. Brekke-Read will serve the community and City Council well.”
