Edgewood Tahoe opens as Nevada lifts restrictions on some recreational activities

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - When Governor Sisolak of Nevada said some outdoor recreation businesses can reopen, Edgewood Tahoe was ready to go after weeks of preparation to do so in a safe manner.

If Monday's opening day on the greens at Edgewood was any indication, golfers were ready to start swinging their clubs and start getting in rounds of golf. Open from 9:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. for now, all tee times through Thursday were already booked before the first round was played.

Edgewood offered a local's special for the week, $60 for walkers and $80 for single-occupant golf carts (two allowed if from the same household).

"We opened responsibly. We have the means to do that and we take that seriously," said Edgewood Tahoe's General Manager Corinna Osborne.

Osborne said they have spent the last four weeks planning and preparing for reopening responsibly with new procedures in place to maintain a safe environment for both staff and guests.

"It has been a very busy weekend taking tee time reservations," said Osborne. "People are ready to get out into the outdoors and enjoy a bit of golf...a great way to physically distance."

Edgewood Tahoe's newly implemented sanitizing procedures and socially distancing guidelines include cups on the greens being placed upside down so golfers don't reach into them; plexiglass in front of the pro shop staff where golfers check-in; no self-service food and beverage but having the snack bar open for food to go; golf bags not handled by staff and touched only by the golfer; cleaning and sanitizing carts, range balls, all surfaces; no ice chests; sand and seed bottles removed from carts; sanitizing stations around the course; drinking fountains are turned off and covered; plenty of signage on proper social distancing procedures and hygiene protocol.

"We are being extra cautious on how to operate," added Osborne. "It is extremely important, it's the new norm for right now."

For now, the grounds of Edgewood are closed to the general public and only open for those with tee times.

Edgewood is looking forward to tentatively opening their new lodge on May 15 unless they hear otherwise from the State. Right now there will be no restaurants open and packaged food will be available for room service.

"Once the governor decides on restaurants reopening we will phase in the restaurants as well and not do it in a hurry," said Osborne of opening their three restaurants on their terms to fit all new required protocols.
