COVID-19 case update for Lake Tahoe and surrounding counties

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The County's Public Health Department is reporting four new cases of COVID-19 in El Dorado County, two men, two women with one each in the areas of Pollock Pines/Camino/Kyburz; Diamond Springs/El Dorado; North County; and South County.

This brings the total number of cases to 60, with 50 recoveries and ten active cases. To date, 3,324 tests have been administered to residents with 131 of those new Tuesday.

Twenty people in the Lake Tahoe region of the county have tested positive. This region includes South Lake Tahoe, Meyers, Kyburz, and Tahoma.

Washoe County

The Regional Information Center is reporting an additional COVID-19 related death in Washoe County: A male in his 40s with no underlying health conditions. This is the 40th COVID-19-related death in Washoe County.

There were also 16 new COVID-19 cases and 10 recoveries in Washoe County.

For the first time, the number of COVID-19 recoveries (539) is greater than the number of active COVID-19 cases (537). In comparison, May 1, 2020 there were 545 active cases and 343 recoveries (+202 active cases). On April 12, 2020, there were 388 active cases and 61 recoveries (+327 active cases).

According to the Nevada Hospital Association, in Washoe County as of May 11, 2020:

60 percent of staffed short-term, acute-care hospital beds are occupied (-5% since May 9)
34 percent of the Intensive Care Unit beds are occupied (+2%)
12 percent of ventilators are in use (+1%)

Quad-Counties - Carson City, Douglas, Storey, Lyon

Quad-County Emergency Operations Center in Carson City is reporting Tuesday that there are three new positive cases, including one person under the age of 18 in Carson City, and two recoveries of COVID-19 in the Quad-County region. This brings the total number of cases to 127, with 84 recoveries and two deaths, 41 cases remain active.

The new cases are:
— A female Lyon County resident in her 20’s
— A male Carson City resident under the age of 18
— A male Carson City resident in his 80’s

Carson City Health and Human Services is working to identify close risk contacts to prevent further spread of the disease. Due to medical privacy requirements and to protect their identity, no further information about the cases will be released.

The positive test result for the individual who is not experiencing symptoms of COVID-19 is included in the overall case count. The lab is experiencing a high volume of tests. Results from the asymptomatic community-based testing locations may take longer than expected. CCHHS will contact those tested by phone when their results are in.

Placer County

There have been no new cases of confirmed COVID-19 in Placer County since Monday.

Alpine County

There have only been updates to the county's testing figures. The two positive case numbers have not risen in a few weeks. The figures below are the last ones reported on April 27 and there have been no changes.
