Many people around Lake Tahoe say the 4:00 a.m. earthquake woke them up.
It has been followed by, so far, 15 strong aftershocks measuring 3.1 to 5.4 have occurred. The USGS website has over 15,000 comments in their "Did You Feel It" section from Reno to the San Francisco Bay Area and down to Bakersfield and Las Vegas.
US95, the major highway between Reno and Las Vegas is closed at this hour at Esmeralda due to the damage being assessed on the roadway. There are large cracks along the highway and Nevada Highway Patrol is diverting traffic to US360.
