Reno man dies in Echo Summit motorcycle accident

There were two motorcycle accidents over the weekend on the same stretch of Highway 50 near Twin Bridges, resulting in fatality and another person being injured.

On Saturday, May 14 at approximately 5:47 p.m., a 49-year-old Martin Gastanaga of Reno was riding his motorcycle eastbound when he, for unknown reasons, lost control of the bike on a curve, and was ejected.

The California Highway Patrol says the driver was traveling 50 mph just east of Twin Bridges.

Gastanaga died at the scene.

On Sunday, just west of same stretch of Highway 50, another motorcyclist was involved in an accident. Details have not been released but the CHP said he suffered a broken bone.

Officer Mark Melhus of CHP in Meyers said both Highway 50 and Highway 88 have a lot of curves in them, and if people aren't practiced riders, they need to ride at a safe speed as the curves can be just as dangerous as a higher rate of speed.
