Volunteers needed at CA State Parks and UC Davis Environmental Center

California State Parks Foundation has created a way for people to enjoy their parks while volunteering for a day. This is happening across the state in response to budget cuts.

Park Champions is having their first workday at Ed Z'Berg Sugar Pine Point State Park on Thursday, June 9 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. to remove invasive plants in order to restore habitat for the birds and the bees. Tools, training and snacks provided. The Sierra State Parks Foundation will also offer volunteers a free guided tour.

A second local opportunity will be Thursday, Jul 14 from 9:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Help work on the first stage of restoring the historic native plant garden at Vikingsholm. Remove invasive plants & clear the garden area for planting with native species.

UC Davis Docent Training will be on June 21 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m. and June 23 from 2:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at their Incline Village location and on June 25 from 9:00 a.m. to noon in Tahoe City.

Join a group of individuals who are helping to make possible the best in science education and enjoyment. Training includes general Lake Tahoe information, environmental issues, geology, history of research, state of the lake, ecology and food web, and prepares volunteer docents to share their love of Lake Tahoe at the UC Davis science education centers in Incline Village and Tahoe City.

Training includes all Docent Program materials, guest speakers from UC Davis, UNR, DRI, research vessel time on the lake, and a social happy hour.
