Greta the security K-9 officer on staff at Harrah's and Harveys Lake Tahoe

STATELINE, Nev. - Many are accustomed to K9 officers in law enforcement departments across the world, but how many knew casinos utilized them in their security teams?

Meet Greta. She is a one-and-a-half-year-old Belgian Malinois who is now a new security officer at both Harrah's and Harveys on the South Shore of Lake Tahoe. She works alongside her trainer, Security Officer III Tony Broadfoot, a former K9 handler/officer with the South Lake Tahoe Police Department and former deputy with El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. Greta is tasked like other officers with using her eyes and ears while patrolling the casino floors and property, but it’s that incredible canine nose that really helps keep guests and team members safe.

She will be used at Harrah's Reno occasionally as well.

Greta is the first K-9 security dog trained for a Caesars Entertainment property outside of Las Vegas, where K-9s are more commonplace. The Belgian Malinois breed has been used in both the military and law enforcement for more than 25 years and is said to have more stamina and longevity than the more common and familiar German Shepards.

Although she was trained in Las Vegas, Greta is acclimating to the High Sierra environment. “Vegas is okay, but I really dig Lake Tahoe,” Greta admits through the Harrah's media office. “I give it two paws up!”
