Town of Gardnerville releases conceptual Parks and Open Space Master Plan

GARDNERVILLE, Nev. – The Town of Gardnerville seeks public input to help shape the future of town owned parks and open spaces. Over the last nine months town staff has been working with Wood Rodgers Inc and the town board to draft a parks and open space master plan. The plan will guide town spending and grant submittals in the upcoming decades to help the town provide unique and desired amenities to encourage and increase resident use of the parks and open spaces.

A look at the South Lake Tahoe Police Department

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Law enforcement has come a long way in South Lake Tahoe since the first police department started on July 1, 1967. At that time there were 30 sworn male officers who were chosen from a list of more than 400 applicants who wanted to be part of the first police department for the new city. They were tested in Seal Beach, Roseville, and South Lake Tahoe then interviewed in Los Angeles and Sacramento.

Man charged with battery after allegedly hitting Douglas County deputy vehicle

MINDEN, Nev. - An alleged theft investigation at a WalMart in Douglas County led to the arrest of 23-year-old Gardnerville resident Steven Williams with the assistance of the South Lake Tahoe K-9 unit.

The incident started on Friday morning when deputies from the Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) responded to the Walmart on Grant Avenue for an alleged theft investigation. They learned the suspect was driving a white sport utility vehicle.

Reports of reckless driver in South Lake Tahoe leads to arrest of felon

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received numerous calls from the public on Tuesday evening at approximately 5:00 p.m., alerting them to a reckless driver in a Honda running stop lights and speeding on Lake Tahoe Boulevard.

As officers responded and attempted to locate the vehicle and its driver they got a report of a Honda crashing into another vehicle in a driveway near the 900 block of Macinaw Rd.

LAKE TAHOE, Calif./Nev. – With a critical increase in active shooter events across the country, the Tahoe Chamber is holding a Level UP Workshop on the subject Wednesday, March 20 from noon to 1:30 p.m. in their Stateline office.

Workplace violence affects about 2 million workers in the U. S. each year. With this violence continuing to pose a looming threat, active shooter training is essential for all businesses. Active shooter events most commonly occur in businesses - 45 percent, schools - 25 percent, and government facilities - 10 percent.

Washoe County Sheriff releases names of Reno homicide victims

RENO, Nev. - A Reno couple in their 80s have been identified as the victims in Wednesday's double homicide.

The Washoe County Regional Medical Examiner’s Office today said 81-year-old Gerald David and his wife, Sharon David, age 80 were killed in their home. Next of kin have been notified.

Both victims died as a result of gunshot wounds, similar to the method used in the two recent Douglas County murders.

Men arrested after pursuit of stolen truck along Highway 50

A pursuit of a stolen 2017 Chevy Pickup began on Highway 50 near Riverton and ended near Sly Park Wednesday, leading to the arrest of two men, one for attempted murder of an officer.

The Placerville California Highway Patrol (CHP) attempted to pull over the truck driven by Cesar Ramos, 26, of Hollister, Calif. at Riverton. Instead of stopping, Ramos sped away in the westbound direction at speeds of 90-110 mph.

Graduation for 13 new members of Douglas County Search and Rescue

New members were added to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Search and Rescue team this week after completing a 48-hour academy where they were certified as a Nevada Wilderness Search and Rescue Technician (NWSRT), a nationally recognized credential.

The graduation for the 13 community members was held on April 17, 2018 in Minden, Nev.

Domestic violence suspect apprehended after hours-long standoff

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIF. - A violation of a restraining order in South Lake Tahoe Monday afternoon led to an hours-long standoff, closed off neighborhoods and subsequent arrest of a man with a long history of violence.

On Monday, January 22, at about 4:30 p.m., the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) received a call that Brandon Bannowski, 25, had violated a Restraining Order and allegedly entered the home of his ex-girlfriend, threatened her with a baseball bat and choked her.

Douglas County Sheriff's K-9 fundraiser

The final radio show of the year for the Douglas County Sheriff's Office will coincide with a K-9 fundraiser on Friday, October 6 with Jon Sanchez on KOH780AM.

Five of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office K-9s will be on hand during the live show and event from 3:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Sanchez Ranch Meats located at 1734 Hwy 395 in Minden, Nev.

The DCSO K-9 unit is made up of Shadow, Drago, Bak, Bane and Beny.

Fire Fest returns to the South Shore

Douglas County Sheriff's Office takes to the airwaves with KOH 780AM

Douglas County Sheriff’s Office will be partnering with radio personality Jon Sanchez of KOH 780AM for the third time in a series of eight radio events to be broadcast for the community.

The next event is a live-remote broadcast on Friday, August 4, 2017 from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. at Sanchez Ranch Meat Company located in Minden, Nev. Two new members added to Douglas County K9 unit

There are two new members to the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, Beny and Bane.

Beny is from Slovakia and is a one-year-old German Shepard. His new partner is canine handler Deputy Adam Windsor, who has been with DCSO for 13 years. Deputy Windsor described Beny as "mellow."

DCSO Deputy Duffy selected as Grand Marshall for Carson Valley Days parade

Douglas County Sheriff's Deputy Teresa Duffy will lead the 107th annual Carson Valley Days parade as the Grand Marshall. The theme of the parade and festival is "A Salute to First Responders."

The Carson Valley Active 20-30 Club is organizing the event which runs from June 9 to June 11. The club wanted to raise awareness, celebrate, honor and, most importantly, say thank you to the first responders of Douglas County, those who protect the community on a daily basis.

Community turns out for celebration of SLT Police Department's 50th anniversary

The first South Lake Tahoe Police Department community gathering was a successful one on Saturday as the 50th anniversary of the department was celebrated with hundreds of people at Lakeview Commons. There were rides on both the police and fire boats, a concert, BBQ, interactions with the police K-9s, booths, fingerprinting and an awards ceremony.

Going above and beyond the call of duty was recognized with awards to both staff members and the public.

Community party to celebrate South Lake Tahoe Police Department's 50th anniversary

Escaped Carson City inmate found after crashing stolen water truck

An inmate who walked away from work detail at the Stewart Conservation Camp in Carson City on Tuesday has been arrested after crashing a City water truck that he allegedly stole.

Douglas County Sheriff's Office (DCSO) was contacted on Wednesday, March 29 about the attempted theft of a vehicle in northern Douglas County. The reporting party was working on the roof of the Sprint Store on Hwy 395 when he saw the attempt. The suspect was chased away by witnesses, running north towards Fuji Park in Carson City.

Placer County Sheriff's K-9 Chase finds 54 pounds of pot

It was just another day of work for Chase, a K-9 who works with the Placer County Sheriff's Office. On Thursday, October 13, Chase and his handler, Deputy Josh Buckley, were called in to assist the California Highway Patrol with a traffic stop on Interstate 80, just west of Highway 267.

One there, Chase's nose took control and he ended up sniffing large vacuum sealed boxes which contained a total of 54 pounds of marijuana.

The driver of the vehicle was arrested by CHP.

Search continues for woman missing from Alpine County campground

On July 28, 71-year-old Rosalynn Saxsenmeier wandered away from her camping spot in the Silver Valley Campground at Lake Alpine at 2:00 p.m. and hasn't been seen since.

Many agencies are assisting in the search and combing a 100-mile area for the El Granada (Half Moon Bay area), Calif., woman. A "Silver Alert" has been issued via the California Highway Patrol as well. Search and rescue teams from El Dorado, Tuolumne, Marin, Contra Costa, Placer and Calaveras counties have been joined by K-9 crews, CA Office of Emergency Services and the Bay Area Mountain Rescue Unit.

11 arrested during "Operation Safer Streets"

Fifteen officers from three Northern Nevada agencies recently completed "Operation Safe Streets," putting them in touch with dozens of high risk offenders in the Carson City, Douglas County, Washoe County and Lyon County areas.

Nevada Department of Public Safety- Division of Parole and Probation in collaboration with the Carson City Sheriff’s Office, and the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office made the contacts on July 29 and July 30, resulting in 11 arrests.

Bartenders arrested on drug charges in Incline Village

Two Incline Village bartenders are facing narcotics charges after being arrested by the Washoe County Sheriff's Office All Threats All Crimes (ATAC) Unit.

A series of undercover operations took place between January 28 and February 4, 2016 and were directed towards bartenders at local bars and grills who were suspected of selling drugs to patrons.

Traffic stop on I80 leads to seizure of 63 pounds of pot

Two Plumas Lake, Calif., residents found themselves in the Washoe County Jail on Sunday after Nevada State Troopers found 63 pounds of marijuana in the back of their car.

At 11:10 a.m. on December 6, Troopers pulled over a white Ford Expedition with New York registration tags for a moving violation on I80 near Robb Drive. The car was occupied by Patrick Fay, 64, and Corinne Fay, 57.

8th annual K-9 trials in South Lake Tahoe October 3

The South Lake Tahoe Police Canine (K9) Association (SLTPCA) will be hosting the 8th annual K9 Trials at Lakeview Commons at El Dorado Beach on Saturday, October 3rd.

As a sanctioned Western States Police Canine Association event, it is expected to draw 45-50 canine teams throughout California.

The competition will begin at 9 a.m. on Saturday, October 3rd with the Field Search phase which tests the ability of the canine team to locate hidden suspects.

Canned food accepted at Fall Festival and Chili Cook-Off for Christmas Cheer

The 4th Annual Fall Festival and Chili Cook Off will be held on Saturday, September 12th, from 10:00 a.m.to 4:00 p.m. at the Recreation Complex on Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.

Admission to the event is free. Besides the few dozen local vendors and chili chefs, there will be free games and prizes for the kids, All attendees receive a free door prize ticket for all attendees.

El Dorado County Fair Opens in Placerville

It's that time of year again. The county fair, full of funnel cakes, carnival rides, animals, music, exhibits, wheelbarrow races, wine and beer competition and good old fashioned fun.

The El Dorado County Fair opened on Thursday and runs through Sunday, Father's Day at the fairgrounds in Placerville. The theme this year is "Photos, Fathers and Fairs."

The County Sheriff's Office invites community members to stop by their booth and see the brand new state of art patrol vehicles. They'll have a new SUV and sedan on display so people can see inside and check out their new features.
