LTUSD calls special meeting to discuss proposed energy efficiency projects and their financing

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - It currently costs the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) $1,073,855 a year to provide natural gas, electricity, and water to their nine locations, which is a cost of $ 1.77 per square foot.

They have been looking at ways to reduce these costs through their Sustainability Committee, and now a "Renewable Energy & Sustainability Committee Implementation Plan" has been presented to the Board of Education.

The District is looking at upgrades to their systems at a price tag of $9,793,778 with up to 16,335,962 in expected energy savings coming back to them over the next 20 years.

On Wednesday, May 22 LTUSD is holding a special meeting at 5:00 p.m. to discuss the scope of proposed energy efficiency projects and financing options and the public is invited to attend.

They started the discussion at their May 15 board meetings

Even though eventually the District will make money on the savings projects, there are expenses going in. Three options were given, using fixed payments, variable payments or use of the general fund, all with zero percent interest loans.

This portion was confusing to the Board and they asked for Wednesday's workshop to better understant benefits and expenses.

Wednesday's meeting will be held in the LTUSD District office on Al Tahoe Blvd.
