Lake Tahoe Unified School District seeks developer fee increase

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) is seeking a increase of developer fees that go to the district from $2.24 per square foot to $3.20 per square foot. They plan to use the increase in revenue to support its program to reconstruct existing facilities, funds that are needed due to rising costs in South Lake Tahoe.

Faulty heat tape the cause of smoke at Sierra House Elementary Monday morning

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Valley Fire Protection District (LVFPD) responded to Sierra House Elementary Monday after a report of smoke at the rear of the building.

The 8:02 a.m. call happened as staff and some students were arriving for the school day. Since it is remote learning at this time the school wasn't full and those that were there evacuated the building.

Cause of the smoke turned out to be a faulty heat tape and there was no damage to the structure or roof, just a rain gutter which had ice inside, according to LVFPD.

Driver leads Douglas County deputies into South Lake Tahoe at speeds up to 100 mph

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A vehicle pursuit from the Douglas County side of the state line into South Lake Tahoe Sunday led to the apprehension of a 19-year-old man and a 14-year-old juvenile.

Bread & Broth 4 Kids adjusts weekly food program for South Lake Tahoe youth

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - In an ever changing pandemic situation, Bread & Broth 4 Kids has adjusted their weekly food bag program for South Lake Tahoe school age youth.

Bags will be on the school buses (schedule below) on Wednesdays when school is in session (no delivery December 23 and 30). When school resumes to in person instruction, this schedule will adjust to fit the need and school schedules.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue decorated holiday truck schedule

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue has been able to reverse its earlier decision and is once again going to launch the decorated fire truck through the community. They will be running nightly from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. December 10-24, 2020.

COVID-19 testing available on LTCC campus through winter

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) will continue to serve as an appointment-only COVID-19 testing center through March 31, 2021. The college’s standalone Physical Education building is the only large-scale COVID-19 active virus testing site operating in El Dorado County.

LTCC awarded Blue Ribbon Tallac Achievement Award for Mobility Hub project

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lake Tahoe Community College (LTCC) and its new Mobility Hub won the Tallac Achievement Award during the 13th annual Blue Ribbon Awards Thursday evening.

The award is given to an exemplary infrastructure project that revitalizes and enhances the economy and community of Tahoe’s South Shore.

New stop signs installed on South Lake Tahoe streets to improve safety

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There are three new stop signs in the Rocky Point neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe in response to complaints about speeding vehicles and unclear lines of sight.

Last week City of South Lake Tahoe Public Works staff installed stop signs at Chonokis Road and Rocky Point Road, and on Montreal Avenue at Moss and Fern roads.

The City hired a traffic engineer to do an assessment of the conditions after they received complaints and requests to look at speeders using the neighborhood to bypass Highway 50/Lake Tahoe Boulevard through the casino corridor.

City Manager commits to improving the Regan Beach area and making it safer

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Regan Beach in South Lake Tahoe has been a problem spot for Al Tahoe area residents this year, with late night parties, speeding on Lakeview Avenue, and illegal use after hours.

South Lake Tahoe City Manager Joe Irvin sat down recently with residents around the city-owned Regan Beach to find out what could be done to improve the current situation.

"I am committed to improving the park," said Irvin of the new plans with safety at the forefront.

Al Tahoe Firewise Community volunteers to perform property assessments

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - With the support of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue (SLTFR), the Al Tahoe neighborhood has begun the process of becoming a certified Firewise USA ® recognized neighborhood.

As part of the application process, SLTFR and Al Tahoe community volunteers will be walking in the Al Tahoe neighborhood October 27-30 and performing random wildfire risk assessment/evaluations on 20 percent of the 1520 properties from the street.

The volunteers will have bright yellow vests on so they can be easily identified

Fire Chief tells how Measure S can help fund needs in South Lake Tahoe

On November 3, the City of South Lake Tahoe will be asking voters for support of a one-cent local sales tax known as Measure S.

Search to resume Wednesday for man missing in Lake Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A man who had been swimming with friends is missing tonight in Lake Tahoe off the southern shore and the search for him will resume Wednesday morning.

Zephyr Fire and South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue crews help with defensible in Al Tahoe

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Al Tahoe neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe has been working on becoming a Fire Wise community, and this weekend's defensible space project took them closer to obtaining this recognition.

Al Tahoe neighborhood defensible space clean up August 22-23

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - On Saturday and Sunday, August 22 and August 23, the Al Tahoe Community will participate in a Neighborhood Clean-up Work Day Event. The two-day event is from 9:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. each day and is part of their efforts to become a Firewise USA certified district.

South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and Tahoe Douglas Fire District Zephyr Chipping crews will be in Al Tahoe both days to assist homeowners with creating good defensible space around their properties and will show homeowners how to apply Firewise strategies to reduce wildfire risk.

Marjorie Louise Daum ~ 1938 - 2020

Longtime South Lake Tahoe area resident Marjorie Louise Daum has entered the kingdom of God.

The well known local businesswoman was 82.

Marjorie was as a very kind and sweet person, always greeting everyone with a cheerful smile and a hug. Her strong courage, humility, honesty and faith guided her successful path through life.

She was born on February 24, 1938 and moved with her family to South Lake Tahoe in 1947 where they lived at the Al Tahoe Pines Resort. The family's marine service station was where the current Globin's building and Pick 6 are currently located.

South Lake Tahoe rally held to support local law enforcement

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Almost 200 people showed up Saturday to display their support of South Lake Tahoe law enforcement during a rally on a national day to "Bridge the Blue."

The supporters gathered at the entrance to the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office (EDSO) and South Lake Tahoe Police buildings before many of them joined a walk down Johnson Boulevard to US50 over to Lakeview Commons and down Al Tahoe, then back to the beginning.
