Sisolak sets target date of June 4 for reopening of Nevada casinos

Casinos in Nevada could be open by June 4 according to an announcement Friday by Nevada Governor Steve Sisolak.

The Nevada Gaming Commission (NGC) will be meeting on Tuesday and consider action necessary for reopening. Pending those results, and evaluation of trends in data, the state's gaming industry could reopen. During the NGC meeting there will be a workshop with state and local health officials regarding COVID-19 response measures at resort-hotels.

“Without a thoughtful and measured reopening of Nevada’s gaming industry, all of the work that Nevadans have done to fight the spread of this viral pandemic will have been for naught,” a news release from the Governor’s Office on Friday stated. “The Gaming Control Board remains resolute in ensuring that gaming operations in this State do not compromise the health and safety of Nevadans.”

Caesars Entertainment, the owner of both Harrah's Tahoe and Harveys Tahoe, stated in an email to employees they will look at reopening one casino at a time in an area where they operate multiple properties. They announced this week they will first open both Caesars Palace and the Flamingo Las Vegas in Southern Nevada, when Sisolak gives opening approval.

“Reopening Las Vegas in a phased approach will be a significant milestone for Caesars Entertainment as the country continues to emerge from this necessary closure period,” said Tony Rodio, CEO of Caesars Entertainment in a statement.

They have not made an announcement about Lake Tahoe but these Caesars properties have reopened: Harrah's Ak-Chin, Harrah's Cherokee, Harrah's Cherokee Valley River, Harrah's Gulf Coast, Harrah's Louisiana Downs, Harrah's Resort Southern California, Horseshoe Bossier City, Horseshoe Tunica.

MontBleu and Hard Rock Tahoe will be the other two local casinos able to open after given the thumbs up by Sisolak. It is unknown at this time what their possible opening dates are.
