Nine rescued from Lake Tahoe after boat flips

Nine people were rescued Saturday after their boat took on water and flipped over near Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe, the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office reports.

Lt. Pete Van Arnum said El Dorado County Sheriff’s boat unit and the U.S. Coast Guard responded to a report of a vessel taking on water near Dollar Point in Lake Tahoe at around 2 p.m.

The first rescue boat arrived at approximately 2:13 p.m. and found six people in the water clinging to the hull of the overturned boat, said Van Arnum in a news release. The sailboat that had made the distress call was able to rescue three victims from the water however struggled against heavy winds with the remaining victims.

Sheriff’s deputies pulled two victims from the water, while the Coast Guard pulled the remaining four victims into the Coast Guard boat. All victims were transported to the public utility dock on the north shore of Lake Tahoe where awaiting paramedics transported them to the hospital for hypothermia.
