City Council makes it official: Dirk Brazil's interim city manager contract approved

He's been on the job for a few weeks, meeting with staff and getting to know the ropes in South Lake Tahoe, but Dirk Brazil's employment contract for the interim city manager position was officially approved at Tuesday's City Council meeting, his first official day on the job.

Brazil retired as the Davis, California city manager six months ago and has extensive experience with policies in regards to cannabis, affordable housing/rental housing, homelessness, economic development, sustainability, finance, public art and labor negotiations which are all issues at the forefront of the City Council.

Brazil will be paid $103.85 per hour, and is expected to work 30-40 hours per week. He cannot work more than 960 hours due to his Calpers retirement. He wll be able to accrue sick leave though according to labor code.

“We are very pleased to have someone of Mr. Brazil’s caliber and experience join us and assist the City while recruiting for a permanent City Manager,” said Mayor Wendy David.

“I am ready to get started and hit the ground running. The uniqueness of the geography and variety of important policy issues in South Lake Tahoe make this an appealing opportunity for government city management,” said Brazil.

He will be looking for temporary housing for he and his wife, Nora, who is a school teacher. She'll be in town when her job allows. They have two grown children and one grandchild.

He told South Tahoe Now previously that he enjoys running, swimming, golf and being outdoors, all things South Lake Tahoe can supply him with.

"Summer over 6,000 feet is very appealing," said Brazil.

The City is actively recruiting for permanent City Manager and City Attorney candidates and has contracted with The Prothman Company for the recruitment. Information on both recruitments can be viewed online at http://www.prothman.com/current_searches/index.aspx
