Chad Houck Named New South Tahoe High Principal

Thomas "Chad" Houck was named the new Principal of South Tahoe High School during Tuesday's School Board meeting.

Houck, his wife Kelly and their four children will be relocating to South Lake Tahoe during the summer (he starts his home search on Wednesday with Realtor Adele Lucas). His first day on the job will be August 1st.

He was most recently employed by the Sierra Sands Unified School District in Ridgecrest, CA where he served for one year as principal of alternative education at Mesquite High School and eight years at Burroughs High School as assistant principal for curriculum and instruction and attendance. Prior to

that, Mr. Houck was the Aquatics Director and teacher at the Yosemite Union High School District, teaching physics, integrated science, and aquatics and he spent five years with San Marino Unified, also teaching physics and aquatics.

He replaces Ivone Larson, who was named as the Assistant Superintendent for Secondary Education, Career Technical Education and AVID for LTUSD.

Houck holds a Master's Degree in n Postsecondary Administration of Student Affairs from the University of Southern California. He studied Mechanical Engineering at Vanderbilt University where he was awarded B.A. and B.S. degrees and he is currently a Doctor of Philosophy candidate with Capella University.

He also builds skis, snowboard, mono-skis and bi-skis in his free time. Houck said he can't wait to move to South Lake Tahoe, get to know the community and enjoy skiing and snowboarding. “My family and I are extremely excited to join the LTUSD family and I hope to be a Viking for a long time to come,” said Houck.
