Revised Meyers Area Plan Revealed; Community Workshop on June 26th

Event Date:
June 26, 2014 - 6:00pm

The Meyers Area Plan is a long term land use and zoning plan for the Meyers Community that will realize the Meyers Community Vision, assist in achieving and maintaining TRPA’s Environmental Threshold Carrying Capacities, implement the Tahoe Metropolitan Planning Organization’s Sustainable Communities Strategy, and implement the policy direction of both the Regional Plan and General Plan.

After feeling left out of the process of what is their home, the Meyers community came up with their vision statement and their neighbors have been part of the process to come up with an area plan that works for the locals as well as the agencies in the region that have a stake. The Meyers Area Council is comprised of Brett Long, David Reichal, Greg Daum, Gretchen Eichar, John Dayberry, John Garofalos, Rebecca Schwartz and Rene Brejc. They have worked with our El Dorado County Supervisor and planners, TRPA, and a consultant team made up of members from Hauge Breuck and Associates, – DeMartino Mapping Services, Wells Barnett Associates, Highbar Global Consulting and One Globe Corp. Also in the group were Jennifer Quashnick, Shannon Eckmeyer, Steve Teshara, Angie Olsen and Charles Nelson.

The vision statement: Meyers is an ideally situated, spacious, historic, and walkable mountain community that values sustainability, health, wellbeing and the natural environment. Uniquely concentrated with year-round outdoor sport and recreational opportunities, the Meyers mountain culture is the hallmark of our thriving local-based economy boasting a diverse commercial and retail environment, welcoming visitors and providing residents with an extraordinary place to live, work and play.

The 87 page plan covers conservation, transportation, water projects, recreation, building height, density and many other details.

There will be a community workshop about the plan on June 26 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the CCC building at 1949 Apache Avenue in Meyers.
