Top 13 Reasons South Lake Tahoe is the Place to be this Summer

1. It is SO much cooler than the valley. With nights in the 40s and days in the 70s and 80s, it’s the perfect spot to cool off!

2. Yes, our beautiful lake is a little lower, but with a depth of 1,644’, a loss of one foot over the next 4 months really isn’t that much. There is still lots of water left to play in!

3. This is a great time to explore the other water sport options since it may not be perfect for motorboats and jet skis. Plenty of places to rent kayaks and stand-up paddle boards.

4. Biking trails galore! Where else can you enjoy so many diverse biking trails, from beginner to expert levels all in one place?

5. This is a great time to experience the history of South Lake Tahoe. The museum is open Thursday-Saturday and has a walking historical map you can buy. Tour the authentic log cabin and see the Toll House behind it. Check out Tallac Historic Site too! Lots of great Lake Tahoe history DVDs and books! Tour Vikingsholm, Ehrman Mansion and Thunderbird Lodge.

6. There is SO much beach! What a great place to play volleyball, watch the fireworks, enjoy a picnic, catch some rays and read a book!

6.5 – Did we say its MUCH cooler in Lake Tahoe?

7. Explore what mother nature has unveiled along the shoreline. You'll see beach that hasn't hasn't been walked on before.

8. You can walk for miles along the shore. All beach lower than the natural rim of 6229' is public!

9. There is so much to enjoy, from concerts on the beach to running, biking and color run events. If you can think, Tahoe probably has it. Zip-lining and ropes course on top of the Gondola for starters.

10. You can still enjoy riding one of the big paddlewheelers. The MS Dixie will be up and running this summer!

11. Enjoy the biggest (and we feel, the best) Stand Up Paddle Board event the last weekend of June! Watch as people come from around the country to paddle in the most beautiful place in the world.

12. Great cuisine to check out: Barbecue, Thai, Sushi, Chinese, Steak, Seafood, on the beach, off the beach, towering above the city or in front of a band..you name it, we got it (and if we don’t, heck, you didn’t really want it anyway)

13. It’s really, really green! The late May rains blessed us so everywhere you look it's green (well, okay, the lake is blue...but everything else is green!)
