Edgewood Tahoe to partner with local education groups during American Century Championship

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Edgewood Tahoe has moved from one non-profit receiving the proceeds from food concessions during July's American Century Championship to several groups.

This year, Edgewood Tahoe is partnering with Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation, Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation, and Tahoe-Douglas Rotary Club who in turn will be donating 400 volunteer hours at Edgewood’s four main concession tents.

“Historically, Edgewood has donated over $55,000 from specific concession tents. We are committed to continue our philanthropic approach this year and have developed a theme and strong partnerships to support our objective,” said Corinna Osborne, Edgewood Tahoe general manager. “We decided that our emphasis of charitable giving would be education. Being able to make an impact in a student’s future has a profound effect in our community and we are excited to work with these distinguished groups on their initiatives to support education.”

Lake Tahoe Community College Foundation is planning to put its portion toward the college’s newest initiative, the Lake Tahoe College Promise. The promise provides free education to all first-time, full-time California residents in fall 2018, and starting in 2019, free for first-time, full-time Tahoe Basin residents in Nevada.

Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation is a non-profit dedicated to providing enrichment programs and support to the Lake Tahoe Unified School District through grants. Requests from the school district teachers often far exceed available funds. Lake Tahoe Educational Foundation President Michelle Ramirez said the opportunity the golf tournament presents will directly increase opportunities for area students.

Tahoe-Douglas Rotary provides college and vocational scholarships for South Shore students as well as youth leadership programs and international student exchanges. The club will use the funds this calendar year to support education on the South Shore.

Before the Edgewood Tahoe golf course opened for its 50th season this year, Edgewood Tahoe also supported several local high schools by donating 316 rounds of golf for school fund raising tournaments. Whittell and South Tahoe High Schools booster clubs conducted a joint event at the course and raised approximately $21,000 each over the two-day tournament. At the end of the golf season, the course also hosts the Boys & Girls Club tournament which regularly raises approximately $45,000 to $55,000 for the club.
