SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Al Tahoe neighborhood of South Lake Tahoe has begun the process of becoming a nationally recognized and certified Firewise USA® community with the support of South Lake Tahoe Fire Rescue and under the guidance of the National Fire Protection Association.
There is only one other neighborhood, Golden Bear (Lower Montgomery Estates), that is under the Firewise USA® program in the Lake Tahoe Basin though several areas outside the basin in El Dorado and Place counties are.
This is a voluntary program that provides a framework to help neighbors get
organized, find direction and take action to increase the ignition resistance of their homes in their community. When Firewise USA ® communities apply proven strategies to reduce fire risk, insurance companies recognize these efforts as having value when scoring home safety for new and existing policy evaluations.
Al Tahoe resident Dianne Rees has worked tirelessly to get her neighborhood to this point.
A committee is being formed and volunteers are being recruited for an upcoming
neighborhood assessment. If you live in the Al Tahoe neighborhood, which is considered to be from Edgewood Circle to Lakeview Ave and every address all the way back to the lake, please consider attending the first meeting on July 16 from 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. in front of fire station 2, located at 2951 Lake Tahoe Blvd., South Lake Tahoe
Social distancing rules will apply. Masks must be worn, no handshaking, stay six-feet apart from one another. Fire leaders will be in attendance to talk about defensible space, community workdays, and to talk more about what becoming a Firewise USA ® community means.
