Special Board of Supervisors meeting to discuss COVID-19 related enforcement

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - With concern over the increase in COVID-19 cases in El Dorado County, the Board of Supervisors will hold a special meeting on Thursday, July 9 at 2:00 p.m. to meet with Public Health Director Dr. Nancy Williams and discuss options to keep the communities and residents safe.

The board will receive an update on the status of COVID cases in El Dorado County and provide direction to staff regarding enforcement against businesses and individuals who fail to comply with state and local health requirements.

Elected officials across the state received a letter from California Governor Gavin Newsom on July 1, telling them they have the power to take action to protect their residents.

"A local government that refuses to abide by, ensure compliance with, or take enforcement action against noncompliance with statewide public health directives, or that takes action that is otherwise incongruent with these directives, could jeopardize their eligibility for state funding. Additionally, failure to comply with these directives may result in the impacts of the COVID-19 pandemic lasting longer, with long-term health and economic detriments to your community," said Newsom in that letter.

One week ago, El Dorado County had 178 confirmed cases of COVID-19 with 88 of those in the Lake Tahoe region. On Monday, there were 262 confirmed cases with 130 of those in the Lake Tahoe region.

The meeting will be held online and the public can access or participate in the following way:
