Numbers Fire at 18,000 acres, 5% contained; Investigation into cause

DOUGLAS COUNTY, Nev. - There is a multi-agency investigation into the cause of the Numbers Fire burning ten miles southeast of Gardnerville. Anyone who happened to be traveling on Highway 395 between Ridgeview and Holbrook Junction on July 6 between 6:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. is being asked to help.

At the time of the start of the fire, there was also a pursuit of a stolen vehicle by the Douglas County Sheriff's Office that terminated on the Minden Airport property. That suspect is in custody and not related to the fire.

As of Wednesday morning, the fire is five percent contained and is estimated to be at 18,000 acres. Multiple local, state, and federal fire agencies are assisting and there are numerous fire apparatus and firefighters working on the scene. Equipment on the scene includes Dozers, Handcrews, and Aircraft. No injuries have been reported at this time.

One home has been lost as have ten outbuildings.

All evacuations are lifted with the exception of Pinenut 2 Road east of Out Our Way.

Highway 395 remains closed from Riverview to SR208. Pinenut 2 Rd remains closed (Residents can come and go with valid ID).

Management of the fire is transitioning from local control to the Bureau of Land Management (BLM).
