Lake Tahoe, Sierra and El Dorado County roadwork July 19 - 25

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The California Department of Transportation (Caltrans) is working on area highways. The following is their current project list at Lake Tahoe and in the Sierra.

LONG-TERM PROJECTS

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work continues an $11.5 million project to replace the U.S. Highway 50 Sawmill (Ridgeway Drive) Undercrossing in Pollock Pines to address the aging bridge deck, improve sight distance, bring the bridge railings up to current design standards and make local road improvements to Ridgeway Drive. The project also includes adding overhead lights to the Sly Park Road on- and off-ramps. Completion is expected by June 2021. Highway 50 is reduced to one lane in each direction through the construction zone.

- - - - -July 20-24 - U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) at the Sawmill Undercrossing (Ridgeway Drive): Motorists can expect full ramp and shoulder closures 6 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 6 a.m. to noon Friday for bridge and paving work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County): Work has been postponed until late summer on a $14.1 million project to replace the Echo Summit Sidehill Viaduct, located 7 miles west of South Lake Tahoe. This project is replacing the current bridge, built in 1939, with a new structure to meet current design and safety standards. Completion is expected by this fall. State Route 193 (El Dorado County): Work continues on a $6.1 million project to build retaining walls at two locations and to install metal beam guardrail between Shoo Fly Road and Chili Bar. The project is expected to be complete in August.

State Route 49 (Placer County) from the I-80/SR 49 interchange to Dry Creek Road: Construction began June 17, 2019 on a $42.4 million project in Auburn. The project will rehabilitate existing pavement and drainage, improve operational features and upgrade pedestrian and bicycle facilities.

- - - - - July 19 – July 24 - State Route 49 (Placer County) from the Interstate 80 junction to Dry Creek Road: Motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 p.m. to 6 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for electrical and curb and sidewalk work.

Interstate 80 (Placer/Nevada Counties) at various locations from Cisco Grove to Soda Springs: An $11.3 million project to repair and fortify the existing I-80 shoulders and embankments to minimize future maintenance repair and prevent further damage to the existing roadway caused by melting snow and snow plow activities. New concrete gutters are also being installed along the project route.

- - - - - July 19 – July 24 - Interstate 80 (Placer County) from Rainbow to Cisco Grove: Motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday for roadway excavation.

- - - - - Interstate 80 (Placer/Nevada Counties) from Kingvale to Soda Springs: Westbound motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Thursday for roadway excavation. Eastbound motorists may expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures around the clock from 6 p.m. Sunday through noon Friday.

Interstate 80 (Nevada County) from Farad to Acid Flat Bridge: An $12.9 million Farad Ditch Slope Stabilization project will restore the Farad Ditch by extending the collection area. Construction will also include regrading of the slope by means of roadway excavation, rock excavation, and controlled blasting.

SHORT-TERM PROJECTS

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Pioneer Trail in Meyers to Country Club Drive: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 6 p.m. to 7 a.m. Sunday through Thursday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Tahoe State Park Drive to Sierra Terrace Road: Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday for electrical work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) from Georgetown Road to Spring Street: Motorists can expect intermittent lane and shoulder closures from 7 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday for ditch cleaning.

State Route 49 (El Dorado County) at Coloma Heights Road: Southbound motorists can expect full right shoulder closure from 8:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday for tree work.

State Route 49 (El Dorado/Placer Counties) at the North Fork American River Bridge: Motorists can expect intermittent lane closures from around the clock Monday through Friday for bridge work.

U.S. Highway 50 (El Dorado County) from Hazel Valley Road to Esmerelda Creek Overcrossing: Motorists can expect reverse one-way traffic control from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Friday for roadway excavation.

State Route 89 (Placer County) Lake Boulevard to the Truckee River Bridge in Tahoe City: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control at various locations from 5 p.m. to 5 a.m. Sunday through Wednesday for drainage cleaning.

State Route 193 (El Dorado County) from Rock Creek Road to Chili Bar: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control with an automated signal around the clock for ongoing drainage work.

State Route 28 (Placer County) from Speed Boat Avenue to Park Lane: Motorists can expect one-way traffic control from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m. Monday through Friday and 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Thursday and Friday for electrical work.
