Lake Tahoe Resource Conservation District Hires New District Manager

The Tahoe Resource Conservation District (Tahoe RCD) has hired a new District Manager, John Skeel, who officially takes over duties on July 19 at Tahoe RCD’s offices in South Lake Tahoe, Calif.
Skeel has 24 years of experience working with government organizations and not-for-profit agencies, focused primarily on community services, parks and recreation.
During this time, Mr. Skeel has managed multiple parks totaling hundreds of acres, as well as recreation centers, lakes and other facilities, receiving extensive experience in administrative, financial, planning, restructuring, staff development, marketing, special events, and public/private partnerships.

“I’m really looking forward to working with Tahoe Resource Conservation District,” said Skeel. “Some of my goals with Tahoe RCD include improving the efficiency of programs and operations and developing ways to improve communication between Tahoe RCD and the community.”

Mr. Skeel, who is married with three children, enjoys camping, biking, hiking, running and gardening. He earned a Master’s Degree in Parks, Recreation and Tourism and Urban Studies at Michigan State University, and a Bachelor’s Degree in Therapeutic Recreation and Psychology at Central Michigan University. Skeel is a Certified Parks & Recreation Professional (CPRP).

The Tahoe RCD’s mission is to promote the conservation and improvement of the Lake Tahoe Basin’s soil, water, and related natural resources by providing leadership, information, programs, and technical assistance to all land managers, owners, organizations, and residents. The Tahoe RCD is a non-regulatory, grant funded, public agency that works with a variety of partner agencies to implement programs and outreach, which currently focus on erosion control, runoff infiltration, terrestrial and aquatic invasive species control, and conservation landscaping.
