South Lake Tahoe police chief candidate pool narrowed to five - Town Hall Thursday

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The candidate pool of 61 seeking the job of South Lake Tahoe police chief has been narrowed down to five finalists.

They are:

Captain John Gunderson, Redwood City Police Department

Bachelor’s Degree Criminal Justice, Master’s Degree Public Administration

Lieutenant Tina Jones, Portland Police Bureau
Master’s Degree Criminal Justice

Lieutenant Shannon Laney, South Lake Tahoe Police Department
Bachelor’s Degree Criminal Justice

Deputy Chief Katherine Lester, Sacramento Police Department
Bachelor’s Degree in Government - International Relations, Master’s Degree Geosciences

Lieutenant David Stevenson, South Lake Tahoe Police Department
Bachelor’s Degree Criminal Justice

Community members submitted questions to be asked of the finalists in a process to include the public's voice. After a day of interviews on Thursday, the five candidates will be part of a Town Hall meeting on Zoom where they will be asked questions already submitted.

“Now more than ever, it’s important to make sure our community’s voice is heard during this process,” said South Lake Tahoe City Manager Joe Irvin, “Our police department has been dedicated to this community’s safety and security and we expect our next leader will keep it that way.”

A panel of local representatives was formed to go over all of the questions submitted to narrow down those to be asked during the interview and afternoon public meeting under the guidance of Irvin and Principal Human Resources Analyst for the City, Tom Stuart.
