Submitted by paula on Wed, 08/05/2020 - 4:39pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 31-year-old woman from Alexandria, Virginia is in a Reno hospital today after suffering severe injuries in a South Lake Tahoe hit-and-run collision.
At approximately 5:45 p.m. Tuesday, August 4, first responders arrived in the 3300 block of Pine Hill Road near Keller Road and found the victim laying in the roadway, suffering from severe injuries.

The word "resource" gives one an insight into their position - a resource for the students, and not only at school. A resource for the parents. A resource for the school district. A resource for the school.

On Friday, his shoes showed an image of Breonna Taylor, the 26-year-old African-American emergency medical technician who was fatally shot by Louisville Metro Police Department officers on March 13, 2020.
Curry, who has been outspoken and active with social injustice matters, said the shoes were to "shine a light on Breonna Taylor, demanding and praying and

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Former Police Chief Brian Uhler has been gone from the post in South Lake Tahoe since March, and since then the department's two lieutenants Dave Stevenson and Shannon Laney have been sharing the duties.
The City has now started the recruitment process for a new police chief.
“Public safety is a top priority in the City of South Lake Tahoe,” said City Manager Joe Irvin. “We want to make sure we hire the most qualified person who embodies the spirit of our City too.”

At that time there were 30 sworn male officers who were chosen from a list of more than 400 applicants who wanted to be part of the first police department for the new city. They were tested in Seal Beach, Roseville, and South Lake Tahoe then interviewed in Los Angeles and Sacramento.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - There will be a special board meeting for the South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) on Thursday, June 11 starting at 9:00 a.m. to discuss who will fill the remainder of Jim Jones's term.
Jones, a longtime member of the board, passed away on May 7.
Nine residents filled out an application and expressed a desire to be the temporary board member until December 2020. Jones's seat would have been up for election in November.

Everyone is invited to "attend" his party by driving by with a cheer, a wave, an American flag, or any other birthday greeting. He will be at 2216 Dunlap Street in South Lake Tahoe from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the public can join in a drive-by celebration of this WWII vet. The home is located a block from South Tahoe refuse.

Douglas County school board selects their HR director as next superintendent

In a unanimous decision, the board voted 7-0 to hire Keith Lewis as the next superintendent. Lewis is the District's current Human Resources executive director. He will start to transition into the position immediately and officially take over when White leaves, sometime this summer.

The only item on the agenda is to discuss "superintendent employment." Reportedly the district is still on track to announce the board's chosen candidate at their next regular meeting on March 10 and is using this meeting to finalize a contract.

The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) trustees announced they are in negotiations with the chosen individual but it may be two weeks until the name is released. That person will also have to notify their current employer.
"The community will be very happy with who we selected," Board President Larry Reilly announced during Tuesday's board meeting.

In November, Ms. Berry received a $15,000 cash award at the Carlston Family Foundation’s 17th Annual Awards Ceremony in Mill Valley, Calif. During Tuesday's Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) board meeting, she received an additional $5,000 grant for South Lake Tahoe High School.

The 95-year-old Army Air Corps veteran was given a chance to fly again in a B-17, 75 years after his last flight.
Phil Ward of South Lake Tahoe was delivering meals to local senior citizens when he met Danny and heard his story. Phil's son Eric created the video in this story which features an interview and flight.
El Dorado County Income Support programs in South Lake Tahoe moving into new home

The County announced earlier this year they had purchased the old post office at 3368 Sandy Way in order to move offices over from across the street as a "new campus" is created for services.

Repairs completed include carpet replacement, minor mold remediation and painting.
The Employment Resource Center provides free job assistance services to El Dorado County residents who are looking for jobs or want to improve their job readiness skills. There is no income requirement to use the Center.

LTUSD Superintendent Dr. James Tarwater submitted his resignation on June 21 after serving the South Lake Tahoe community since 2005. He gave the Board a one year notice, making his last day in June 2020.

Plane flips on runway at Lake Tahoe Airport; No injuries reported

There were no injuries to the pilot except for some scratches, the only person on board at the time of the incident.
The call came into emergency dispatch at 12:06 p.m.
Six finalists for South Lake Tahoe fire chief position

The different interview panels consisted of a group of City department heads and area fire chiefs, another of fire department senior staff and union members, and the final interview was with City Manager Frank Rush.
All six are quality candidates according to Rush and fire personnel.
Nevadans protest and testify against Senate Bee Bill in Carson City

Senate Bill 389 relates to the ability to keep bees in residential zones in Nevada and has been hotly debated since it was announced on March 20. It was read during a Natural Resources Committee meeting Wednesday.
Residents attended to an extent that legislative staff needed to open an overflow room to provide for those gathered, in which the meeting was televised from down the hall.

Lyons was the 2018-2019 Small-Scale Service Chair of the CKI chapter at the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA), where she is studying to obtain a bachelor's degree in Psychobiology, aspiring to become a Physician Assistant.

South Lake Tahoe man jailed after three alleged burglaries of hotel supplies

31-year-old Johnathan Adam Towne was arrested on December 16 after allegedly stealing $100 worth of towels and coffee pods on November 28 and $300 in sheets, towels, robes and toilet paper on December 8. On December 15 he was caught inside a room by hotel guests where he allegedly was stealing more coffee pods and hotel candy.

Deputies Maciej Stebel and Spencer McLaughlin graduated November 15, 2018 after attending the academy for the past four months.
New City Manager hired for South Lake Tahoe

The 49-year-old Rush gave his notice to the Emerald Isle, NC town commissioners, resigning the position he'd held for 17 years in the small oceanside resort community.

Rush, 49, who has been Emerald Isle, N.C. town manager since 2001, was one of five candidate finalists interviewed for the job after the City Council hired a recruiting firm on April 17, 2018. Dirk Brazil, the interim SLT city manager, said the process has been a fair one with extensive work between the City's human resources department and the recruiter. Rush was a unanimous choice by the City Council.
Lake Valley Fire Protection District seeking board member

Brian Hogan, an appointed incumbent, is the only person to file for the November 6 election. The current board is Chairperson Robert Bettencourt, Vice-Chairperson Dave Huber, Secretary John Rice and directors Leona Allen and Hogan. Huber is not seeking re-election.
Interim county manager named for Douglas County

Currently Davidson is the assistant county manager, a job she has held since March of this year.
County Manager Larry Werner asked in June to be released from his contract as of August 31.

If you've looked at the night sky lately you've probably noticed what looks like a very bright (and red) star. It's not a star though, it's Mars, and it's shining brighter than it has in more than a decade.
From July 27 until July 30, it will be Mars Opposition, the time when Mars and the sun are on directly opposite sides of Earth. It will appear Mars is rising in the east just as the sun sets in the west.
Mars will be closer to the Earth than normal during this time.
Those two things are making the Red Planet appear brighter than usual.
South Lake Tahoe daycare staff member arrested on child sexual assault charges
Submitted by paula on Wed, 06/20/2018 - 6:11pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - After an investigation into an allegation of ongoing child sexual assault at a South Lake Tahoe daycare center, the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) have arrested the father of the operator of Pequeños Rascals Daycare.
On June 15, SLTPD first received information about the possible assault occurring at the center located at 3336 Sandy Way. Multiple victims came forward and reported a pattern of abuse dating back at least two years.
AAUW South Lake Tahoe sponsors Tech Trek campers

The winners are Kyla Schrauben, Daniela Bonilla, and Evelyn Bennett All three girls are from South Tahoe Middle School, with an alternate, Mia Roper, chosen from Whittell.
These girls who are entering 8th grade next September were nominated by their science/math teachers and selected following a personal interview.

For the first time organizers can remember, twins have been selected to represent the community in the unique and exciting government-in-action learning programs which teach youth how to be knowledgeable stewards of freedom, democracy and patriotism.

Submitted by paula on Thu, 05/31/2018 - 9:32amThe Nevada Division of State Parks has not established a new state park in over 20 years, but now the organization is set to unveil a pair of new state parks, the Ice Age Fossils State Park and the Walker River State Recreation Area.
Ice Age Fossils State Park is located in North Las Vegas Valley near the Floyd Lamb County Park.
The Walker River Recreation Area, located in Mineral and Lyon counties will incorporate 29 scenic miles of the East Walker River in Western Nevada and is made up of four former ranches, the Pitchfork, Rafter 7, Flying M and the Nine Mile Ranch properties.
