Dogs allowed back in the Upper Truckee Marsh, ban ending

The seasonal dog closure of the Upper Truckee Marsh ends on Sunday, July 31.

Each year, the California Tahoe Conservancy closing the marsh to dogs from May 1 through July 31 to protect the critical breeding habitat for special, threatened, and endangered species.

Beginning August 1, dogs will again be permitted access to the Upper Truckee Marsh, provided they are on leash. The Conservancy-owned Cove East property, at the end of Venice Drive and near the entrance to Tahoe Keys Marina, remains open year-round to leashed dogs. The El Dorado County Sheriff enforces county and city ordinances and Conservancy staff monitors for compliance.

The Conservancy owns and manages the approximately 550 acre marsh, one of the largest remaining in the Sierra Nevada, for the protection and enhancement of wildlife habitat and water quality.

efforts to restore and enhance the extraordinary natural and recreational resources of the Lake Tahoe Basin.
