Young teens causing problems at Stateline arrested by South Lake Tahoe Police

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - For the past few weeks, officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) have been dealing with reports of a group of juveniles who have been causing problems in the Heavenly Village and Raley's area near Stateline.

SLTPD has been working with South Shore Security and the department's CSO division to try and catch the group of five-six juveniles ages 13-16. The list of complaints against the youth includes vandalism in the parking garage at Heavenly Village (broken cameras and things being thrown off the roof), demanding money from people and using vulgar, rude and sexual language toward female tourists.

Over the past weekend, SLTPD caught up with the group and ended up detaining five-six local boys. One of them, a 14-year-old, took SLTPD Sgt. Nick Carlquist on a bicycle chase from the back of Raley's to the forested area next to 7-11 on Pioneer Trail. The juvenile threw a punch at Carlquist and caused "multiple use-of-force issues."

The young offender was taken to Barton Hospital for medical clearance before being booked at the Juvenile Treatment Center (JTC) in South Lake Tahoe. "He was so combative, vulgar and sexually rude to the staff [at the hospital] they could barely clear him," said Carlquist.

Once cleared the 14-year-old was processed on misdemeanor charges of Resisting Arrest and Assault on a Peace Officer, and felony charges of Resisting Arrest With Force and Providing a False Name.

Three others were detained and sent to the JTC. All have since been released.

Carlquist said the couldn't find anyone willing to press charges on the threats and vandalism cases.
