SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The community is invited to a groundbreaking ceremony of the new Bijou Marketplace project in South Lake Tahoe on Monday, August 7 at 2:00 p.m.
Halferty Development purchased the old Knight's Inn and surrounding properties for $3.1M on May 9 and had plans to bring in a Whole Foods 365 and other tenants that might include a bank, salon and other retail or restaurants.
This new center was formerly known as the Bijou Park Creek Watershed Management Project and The Knights Inn and Southwest Corner.
James L. Halferty, owner of the development company with his name formed a new company to run the corner development, Bijou Marketplace, LLC.
During the groundbreaking, Bijou Marketplace, LLC, will be announcing the primary tenant. To confirm this tenant was still Whole Foods 365 a call was made to the company headquarters in Southern California, but it was not returned.
The design for the Bijou Marketplace will be a mountain theme, including wood and stone materials which correspond to the City's Design Guidelines.
The undevelopable portions of the site are still under the ownership of the City of South Lake Tahoe and planned improvements will increase ecosystem/watershed filtration processes, restore parcels located in a Stream Environment Zone (SEZ), reduce nutrients and sediment into Lake Tahoe, reduce localized flooding and initiate larger watershed restoration efforts.
Expected attendees at the groundbreaking include Bijou Marketplace, LLC, the primary tenant of Bijou Marketplace (to be announced), City of South Lake Tahoe elected officials, Tahoe Regional Planning Agency, California Tahoe Conservancy, and the Tahoe Chamber.
