In 1962, Erline Christopherson was a 16 year old from Lodi, CA who was living her dream of swimming across Lake Tahoe. In 2014, 52 years later, Erline has returned to the site where she set a world record as the first woman to swim across the lake.
She will be sharing her story at the South Lake Tahoe library Wednesday night at 6 p.m. The library is located at 1000 Rufus Allen Blvd in South Lake Tahoe.
On the date of her famous swim, her then boyfriend hitchhiked from Lodi to watch. Tonight, at the library, they are reunited and able to share their stories along with the gal who helped coach Erline from both the boat and the water on that day, Mary DeMartini.
All people attending the program will receive a free book and souvenir of the historic swim.
South Tahoe Now sat down with Erline and Mary and their friends and family for a story that will be posted on Thursday.
