Firefighters are actively suppressing a 10-15 acre fire two miles south of Spooner Summit on the Humboldt-Toiyabe National Forest’s Carson Ranger District. The lightning caused Genoa Peak Fire was reported Tuesday at 2:00 p.m. and is now five percent contained. The fire is creeping and smoldering in timber and brush.

No structures are threatened at this time and they expect to have the fire 40 percent contained by Wednesday evening.

A hot shot team from Idaho Falls is on their way to join the firefighting efforts which have been both on the ground and by helicopters. 16 personnel are currently at the fire, and a third helicopter is on the way.

It has been challenging to get to the fire due to steep and rocky terrain.

Fire officials ask that motorist are cautious in the area since the Genoa Fire is visible from Jacks Valley Road. Slowing down to watch the fire will increase traffic congestion and risk of vehicle accidents.
