Pence and Cruz cancel trip to Basque Fry due to Hurricane Harvey

With Hurricane Harvey to make landfall along the Texas coast Friday night and Saturday morning, Vice President Pence and Sen. Ted Cruz have canceled their trips to Saturday's Basque Fry in Gardnerville.

Nevada Attorney General Adam P. Laxalt issued the following statement Friday:
“Today, I have been in communication with the Vice President’s staff, as well as with Senator Ted Cruz. We spoke about Hurricane Harvey and the catastrophic effects it could have on Senator Cruz’s home state of Texas. Together, the Vice President and Senator Cruz have decided it would be most appropriate to cancel their trip to Nevada and focus their time and attention on the people affected by this storm.

"While I am grateful that that these two great leaders had planned to visit us tomorrow at the Basque Fry, they are each making the correct and best decision and I fully support them both. My family joins all Nevadans in continuing to keep all those affected by Harvey in our prayers.

“Tomorrow’s Basque Fry event will go on, including remarks from the other great conservative speakers, such as Matt Schlapp, Governor Susana Martinez, and Congressman Mark Amodei, among others. We will also be serving a great Basque Barbecue, and we will have live music and fun events and attractions for the entire family."

The Basque Fry is modeled after similar events that Laxalt’s grandfather, legendary former Nevada Gov. and U.S. Sen. Paul Laxalt, held in Washington D.C. and in his home state for 30 years, according to the Nevada Independent.
The event is expected to bring more than 3,000 people to the Corley Ranch in Gardnerville.click here.
