15-year-old completes 21.3-mile swim across Lake Tahoe

Angel More of San Carlos, California become the youngest person to ever achieve the California Triple Crown of Marathon Swimming after completing an overnight swim across Lake Tahoe.

She is also the youngest officially to have completed the feat according to the Marathon Swimmers Federation.

The 15-year-old left Camp Richardson at 9:00 p.m. Friday, August 24 and arrived at the Hyatt Tahoe beach in Incline Village at 12:39 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, completing the 21.3-mile swim in 15 hours, 39 minutes and 10 seconds.

It was a tough swim with choppy water and wind the whole length of the lake, but even with those things working against her, Angel picked up her pace the final two miles.

"She has been strong and steady, truly inspiring," read the text from her crew almost two hours before the finish.

Her parents, Hermant and Archana, and sister Amber (10) were waiting for Angel on the beach.

"She has spent her whole life in the water," said mom Archana. Mom said she is always nervous during Angel's swims until the finish.

Angel's crew was on board an accompanying boat and kayak. Coach Evan Morrison, official observer Cathy Delano, Lisa Amorao. Gretchen Fermer and Tom Linthicum.

Morrison is with Angel once a week for a swim at 4:30 a.m. in San Francisco Bay. Linthicum captained the boat over a course he has completed three times.

Angel is headed back to the Bay Area where she will be interviewed by CNN early Sunday morning, then get ready for her first day of school on Monday.

The teen is swimming to raise funds for Childrens International, helping children around the world to rise from poverty. She has raised more than $40,000 for the charity to date, with more fundraising planned for a big swim from San Francisco to Alcatraz with other 14 other students in an event called “Escape From Alcatraz to Escape From Poverty.”

Angel has a "crowdrise" page for the donations.
