Slipping and sliding down Ski Run was the Tahoe event of the weekend

The upper portion of Ski Run Blvd. in South Lake Tahoe was transformed into a massive water slide and block party on Saturday, courtesy of Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) and Slide the City.

By looking at the faces of those descending down the water covered inflatable tarp, and hearing their squeals of delight, this event will become an annual occurrence on the South Shore.

"This was so awesome," said one young participant who was on his 10th slide of the day. The cost was $15 per run, $30 for three runs, or $45 for the whole day.

The cost included an innertube which could be blown up at the TRYP booth for a $2 donation. Other participants brought their own pool toys, from large tubes to an inflatable swan and unicorn.

All ages were enjoying the event, as long as they were over 46" tall and at least 5-year-old. It was hard to see who was enjoying the slide more, the younger set, or the adults who were participating.

Slide the City, the company responsible bring the giant slide to Tahoe is a relatively new business. The Salt Lake City based company is three years old, and the local event was their first ever in the state of California. Redding will soon follow as the second with an event on September 17.

Slide the City's Event director, Rachel Peterson, said they were very excited to be in California and working with TRYP, and hope to be back again next summer. As of noon, she estimated 300-400 people had been down the slide, with a few more hours still to go.

"This was a bigger turnout than we expected," said Peterson.

TRYP earned 10 percent of the proceeds for those that bought tickets online using a special promo code. During the excitement of the day, plans were already being made for 2017, one where they will add more vendors now that they have seen the event and how people were drawn to it.
