The South Tahoe Association of REALTORS® partnered with Vitalant, previously
United Blood Services, to host a Blood Drive on Monday, June 17. This event was open to the public. Realtors® and members of the community made appointments and dropped in to donate. There was a total of 22 donors, translating into 66 lives that can be saved.

“This is something that really only takes minutes of your time and is free to give. I’m happy to donate each year and glad to know that it will impact someone’s life in a positive way,” said Kili Ongoy, Chair of the Community Involvement Committee.

Progress for Tahoe, a grassroots group of concerned local citizens who gathered together to address the most pressing issues in Tahoe, have endorsed the following for South Lake Tahoe City Council, Measure T, El Dorado County Supervisors and U.S. Representative California District 4:

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Two local residents were appointed to the new Roads Management Authority Commission, but there are still three to five more members needed. At Tuesday's City Council meeting, MaryAnne Brand and Brent Goligoski were appointed to serve on the commission.

Only five applications were received and Brand and Goligoski were the only two of those to appear at the meeting.

"I am ready to vote on several of the applicants today,doesn’t preclude other applicants from staying in the applicant pool," said SLT Mayor Austin Sass.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. – The Barton Foundation is delighted to announce the appointment of Troy Matthews as its new Executive Director.

Matthews’ commitment to serving his community is exhibited through his involvement and leadership in multiple organizations including Tahoe Regional Young Professionals, the South Tahoe Drug Free Coalition, Progress for Tahoe, El Dorado County Housing Task Force, LTCC Theater Arts Task Force, Leadership Lake Tahoe, and serving on the Lake Tahoe Unified School District School Board.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) will be hosting the next installment in the Tahoe Town Hall series on August 30 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at the Tahoe Beach Retreat Conference Center at 3411 Lake Tahoe Blvd. The event, Tahoe Town Hall: Addressing Homelessness, is free to the public, and will feature a panel of experts to discuss the homelessness issue in South Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Chamber's After Five Mixer at the Alpine Union inside Hard Rock Tahoe is ready to shake up your Thursday routine and help you unwind on June 22 from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. This all-inclusive social event offers people on the South Shore the opportunity to mix and mingle with local business owners, young professionals, entrepreneurs, and community leaders.

Join them on the outside deck of Alpine Union for happy hour and tasty appetizers. This summer kick-off party will have all things summer; good company, cold beers, tropical drinks and sunshine.

South Lake Tahoe, Calif. – Mental Health Awareness Month kicks into gear on May 1. Community members and visitors are encouraged to participate in 31 days of challenges, activities, and events to honor their own mental well-being and reduce the misconceptions about mental health.

There was one thing all speakers during Wednesday evening's Town Hall on recreational cannabis agreed on: People need to get involved, educate themselves and share their opinions with their elected leaders at local, county and state levels.

A panel of six people spoke to the crowd of almost 100 people (and another 300 who were viewing online) during the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) fourth Town Hall meeting in South Lake Tahoe.

The next Tahoe Chamber "Connect for a Cause" mixer will be a joint event with the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals on March 8 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at the Tahoe Beach Retreat in South Lake Tahoe.

Connect for a Cause: Mixed Up Mixer is a great opportunity for both memberships to mix & mingle with one another while learning how these local organizations benefit the South Shore community.

This social event will include tasty appetizers, 1 drink ticket, and a door prize from each organization. It is free for members and $20 for non-members.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) are holding their January South Shore mixer at the Alpine Union restaurant inside the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Wednesday, January 11, 2017 from 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 pm.

Monthly mixers are held for both members and the public and everyone is invited.

January's mixer includes one drink and "heavy" appetizers, free for members and $10 for non-members.

To the South Shore community: My name is Troy Matthews and I am thrilled to announce my candidacy for Lake Tahoe Unified School District Board of Education in Trustee Area 4. My wife Rae and I honeymooned in South Tahoe and decided not to leave. We have fallen in love with this community and have taken active roles in many different local organizations. I work for Tahoe Youth & Family Services, one of the oldest local non-profit organizations in the region serving at-risk and underprivileged youth in South Lake Tahoe.

It was an overflowing crowd at the Tahoe Beach Retreat on Wednesday evening at the housing forum hosted by the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals. A well informed panel of experts in the field of affordable housing answered a slew of questions from both the in-house crowd, and those able to ask from home via a live-stream telecast.

What was evident after two hours of discussion is that there is no one single answer to the issue of affordable housing and it will take much more than a wave of a magic wand to bring about a solution.

Ski Run Blvd and Pioneer Trail will be transformed into a large water party pn August 27 when a 1000-ft water slide lets participants slipe and slide their way down the streets in South Lake Tahoe.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professional group is bringing "Slide the City" to town not only as a fundraiser, but as a fun and local event that will also feature live music, vendors and food through three-city blocks. In order for TRYP to get the funds, those ordering tickets must use the promo code "TRYPSLIDE."

The inaugural Tahoe Town Hall will be hosted by the Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) on Wednesday, April 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Lake Tahoe Community College Student Center.

This free community event will cover local ordinances that impact residents and TRYP invites all to attend to learn the facts and openly answer questions concerning issues in our community and its progress.

Everyone will have an opportunity to ask questions, and they can even be submitted here prior to the event.

The Tahoe Regional Young Professionals (TRYP) will be holding an open house for South Lake Tahoe non-profits on Wednesday, January 20 from 6:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Blue Angel Cafe. The idea is to be able to invite TRYP members and others to engage and be introduced to the numerous non-profits in the community.
