Man drowns off shore of South Lake Tahoe

8/28/18 8:30 a.m. update: The South Lake Tahoe man who died in Lake Tahoe Monday has been identified as Robert Hill by the El Dorado County Sheriff's Office. The cause of death is still under investigation pending an autopsy

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - South Lake Tahoe Police Department's (SLTPD) Marine Unit responded to a call of a life jacket floating in the lake on Monday morning at 11:20 a.m. Upon arrival to an area off Lighthouse Shores they found there was an elderly man attached to the jacket, according to SLTPD Sgt. Travis Cabral.

The male was transported to Barton Hospital where he was declared deceased.

The identity of the man is being withheld pending notification of next-of-kin. He was from South Lake Tahoe.

Cabral said at this time it doesn't appear foul play was involved. The SLTPD Marine Unit is still at the scene completing their investigation this afternoon. The coroner will also be investigating the cause of death.
