South Tahoe Public Utility District to install 72 new fire hydrants

Construction action on the corner of Black Bart Avenue and Pioneer Trail has had many people curious since this is normally a quiet spot, and has been since the post office left his location years ago.

South Tahoe Public Utility District (STPUD) is having 72 new fire hydrants installed on the South Shore and their property at this corner is the staging area for the contractor on the project, White Rock Construction.

New hydrants are in store for areas in Sierra Tract, the "Y", Heavenly Valley, Upper Truckee Road, Meyers, Pioneer Trail, Cold Creek and Christmas Valley. For a map of all new fire hydrant locations, see this map.

The project will take about a year to complete and STPUD decided to use their unused property to be the base of operations instead of finding space elsewhere.

The cost of the project will be approximately $800,000.
