Fork Fire remains at 1,752 acres and 7% contained

EL DORADO COUNTY, Calif. - The forest closure order for the national forests has been extended and did not expire Monday as some had hoped. Eldorado National Forest Supervisor Jeff Marsolais said fire concerns remain, especially near the Fork Fire.

At this time, the Fork Fire has burned 1,752 acres and remains at a seven percent containment line. At this time, 300 personnel are assigned to the incident.

Today there was some more wind at the fire, but not as expected. The fire didn't grow much during the day Monday, giving firefighters a good opportunity to make progress on the edges. Fire officials held a news conference Monday evening, providing updates on conditions and progress at the scene.

There were three minor injuries to firefighters today.

The meteorologist assigned to the Fork Fire said there are subtle changes on the horizon with a slow moving low pressure system moving in. He said humidity remains in the low-to-mid teens, and temperatures in the high 80s. There is a system moving in Thursday that will bring some cooling but not a lot of chance of rain. There is a chance of increase of winds with that system.

The Fork Fire was once again shaded out by smoke from fires south of El Dorado County, keeping air temperatures down and cooler fire temperatures.

Helicopters remain helping with water-dousing efforts.

The cause of the fire is under investigation.
