A three-week project to improve reliability of an underground electrical vault on US50 at Stateline is on a temporary hold after the first day of the project September 18 resulted in a massive traffic jam from the casino corridor to Zephyr Cove.
A new vault was installed after the old one exploded on April 1, 2018. The current project is to work in that vault and to do so, NV Energy needs to close two lanes of traffic through the casinos with one lane open in each direction, with traffic diverted to Lake Parkway and US50.
The highway will stay open with no controls as NV Energy works with their Road and Safety contractor, the Nevada Department of Transportation (NDOT)and Douglas County to come up with a new solution on traffic control as they do the needed replacement on the vault.
"We are finalizing a revised traffic plan in order to complete the necessary work while minimizing impact on traffic," said an NV Energy Corporate Communications Manager Jennifer Schuricht
Once a new date and plan are released, South Tahoe Now will update the public.
