Four arrested after high speed chase through Douglas County and South Lake Tahoe crime

2:45 p.m. 2/28/16 update:

Two different high speed chases through the Carson Valley and up Kingsbury Grade resulted in the arrest of two men and two women on Saturday, February 27, 2017.

At 3:10 p.m., a trooper from the Nevada Highway Patrol spotted a silver Mercedes-Benz with California plates going down U.S. 50 (Spooner Summit) at 85 mph. The driver failed to pull over for the trooper, instead turning South on Highway 395 towards Minden, Nev., at speeds in excess of 100 mph.

According to Trooper Duncan Dunbar of the NHP, they pulled back their pursuit as the vehicle entered a populated area. A description of the vehicle was sent out, and an officer with the Douglas County Sheriff's Office spotted it pulling into the driveway of a residence. The occupant fled on foot and attempted to hide inside the nearby County Library.

The suspect, identified as 41-year-old Timothy Phillips out of California, then ran from deputies but was tased and arrested. He was arrested on several felony and misdemeanor charges including possession several pieces of fake identification, fake credit cards and possession of methamphetamine.

Officers with Phillips' phone then received a message about a car with two people coming to meet him, so they showed up to the meeting spot instead of Phillips. A man and a woman came to meet him in a tented, red colored Rav4 with Texas license plates.

When they saw the NHP troopers, they took officers on a high speed chase along Highway 88, Mottsville Road and Kingsbury Grade, at times reaching in excess of 100 mph.

Again troopers had to pull back due to the safety of the public as the Rav4 was being driven over the yellow line, both in passing cars and cutting corners.

DCSO officers were on the lookout for the car and found it pulled into a Nevada Department of Transportation work yard on Kingsbury Grade. There they found 44-year-old Sean Stillwell of Alameda, Calif., and 32-year-old Natalie Murphy of Sunnyvale, Calif., hiding in the bed of a NDOT truck.

The pair was arrested and booked on multiple felony and misdemeanor charges including possession of methamphetamine, felony eluding, reckless driving, obstruction and being under the influence of narcotics.

Stillwell was also found to have an outstanding felony warrant out of California.

The South Lake Tahoe Police Department was notified that the car chase could cross over into the city and to be prepared, and they were also asked to look into a hotel room rented under the name of one of the fake IDs used by Phillips. At the Inn by the Lake, SLTPD arrested the occupant of the room for possession of methamphetamine.

Officer Matt Morrison of the SLTPD told South Tahoe Now that there is still an investigation underway on the case at the motel. They were waiting for a search warrant as they believe the room contains items tying all four suspects to other crimes.

All three arrested in Nevada were booked by Douglas County Sheriffs and transferred to Nevada Highway Patrol. The woman arrested in South Lake Tahoe is currently in the El Dorado County jail on two misdemeanor charges.
