League invites volunteers to join in Annual Stewardship Day

Event Date:
September 27, 2014 - 9:00am

The League to Save Lake Tahoe invites volunteers to come stabilize stream banks, pull invasive plants and restore trails for the 17th annual Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day on September 27 at Tahoe Paradise Park in Meyers.

The park lies along the Upper Truckee River, Lake Tahoe’s largest tributary. Volunteer efforts will have a tangible effect on reducing sediment flow into the river, and help Keep Tahoe Blue. This is the League’s third year hosting the event at this location.

“We are excited to return to see how our work from previous years is holding up,” said Jesse Patterson, the League’s deputy director. “We’re going to be launching a couple of new projects and shoring up work from previous years, to ensure this event has a lasting impact on Tahoe’s environment.”

Volunteers should wear comfortable clothes that can get dirty, sturdy shoes, and sunscreen, and bring a reusable water bottle. The League will provide lunch, refreshments, gloves and equipment.

Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day is among the largest volunteer restoration events in the Tahoe Basin, engaging hundreds of volunteers each year to learn about Tahoe’s unique forest and wetland ecosystems, while providing hands-on stewardship work. Previous events helped restore forests in the Angora Fire in South Lake Tahoe, Gondola Fire area near Stateline, and at various state parks and public lands throughout the Lake.
