Overland Meat & Seafood pays it forward once again - Tacos for Tahoe giveaway

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Seven hundred people will be the recipients of the next Overland Meat & Seafood "Tacos for Tahoe" giveaway on Monday, October 26 starting at 10:00 a.m.

Brian Cohen, owner of the popular market in South Lake Tahoe, will be continuing what they did three different times at the beginning of the pandemic. At the first ground beef giveaway Cohen went through all 1,000 pounds of meat in 90 minutes.

This time he giving away 1,400 pounds.

"Many people are still struggling in our town," he said. "We are here to help out the community."

Robbery at South Lake Tahoe El Dorado Savings

5:00PM Update: This afternoon South Lake Tahoe Police responded to a bank robbery at El Dorado Savings Bank at the “Y.”

Detectives are currently working the case and asking the public for assistance in identifying the suspect. The suspect’s race or gender are unknown but they were wearing a grey hoodie, black pants and high-top sneakers, standing at approximately 6 feet tall.

Safety changes: Vail moves to presale of lift tickets to manage number of guests

Heavenly, Kirkwood and Northstar, all members of the Vail Resorts family, will be operating differently during the winter season 2020/21. Vail plans on opening both Heavenly and Northstar on November 20 and Kirkwood on December 4.

Ticket sales, use of season passes and facility uses will all be handled to promote physical distancing and protect the safety of staff and guests.

Public invited to help clean up South Lake Tahoe with #IRunWithMaud group

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Join volunteers who are helping to clean up South Lake Tahoe, one region at a time. There are three clean up Sundays scheduled starting with August 9. #IRunWithMaud, a local anti-racism group, will be cleaning Sierra Boulevard from Barbara Avenue to US50 from 9:00 a.m. to noon. Their goal is to help underserved areas by helping to keep them trash free.

Sign up for July 25 Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day- Summer

A few spots are left in the this summer's Tahoe Forest Stewardship Day on Saturday, July 25 from 8:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Join the League to Save Lake Tahoe for a small, RSVP only and physically distanced restoration event. The deadline to sign up is coming quickly - 4:00 p.m. on Friday, July 24.

By pitching in, you are improving ecosystem health and the wildlife habitats that surround Lake Tahoe. Healthy forests and meadows act as natural pollution filters to Keep Tahoe Blue.

Volunteers of all ages and skill levels are invited to this fun, hands-on restoration day.

Lime scooters return to South Lake Tahoe July 1

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Lime will be bringing scooters back to South Lake Tahoe after a unanimous vote by the City Council to temporarily reduce fees associated with the popular mobile devices during their meeting Tuesday. With a reduced season the new charge of $75 per device was not making sense according to the company.

Face coverings to be required on South Lake Tahoe buses and at transit stations

All passengers on Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) buses will be required to wear a face covering while on transit buses and in transit facilities starting Monday, May 18.

This new requirement is to help slow the spread of COVID-19 in public settings where social distancing measures are difficult to maintain and in line with recommendations from the Centers for Disease Control (CDC).

Reopening guidelines approved for Nevada casinos

LAKE TAHOE, Nev. - Casinos in Nevada will not be opening during the Phase 1 reopening plan unveiled by Governor Steve Sisolak Thursday. All Nevada casinos will be required to create and implement an infectious disease prevention plan before they will be allowed to open once Sisolak gives them the green light. He said Thursday Phase 1 expires May 30 and the next phase can start then, or even earlier if all goes as planned. It is unknown at this time if casinos will be included in the next reopening phase.

The South Tahoe Chamber of Commerce would like to offer encouragement and support of a revival of the local economy, while continuing to keep the health and safety of our residents in mind. Cases of COVID-19 have remained low in our region when compared to other more populated areas around the State and Nation. Barton Hospital prepared for an anticipated surge in COVID-19 cases

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Barton Hospital is prepared to handle a surge in COVID-19 patients with an extra 150 beds identified for use if needed, and if that supply is used, more space is ready to be used through the help of community partners.

This was from Dr. Clint Purvance, CEO & president of Barton Health who participated in a virtual Town Hall meeting on Friday, hosted by the Tahoe Chamber.

Tahoe Transportation District rolls out fare-free transit

STATELINE, Nev. - The Tahoe Transportation District (TTD) is rolling out zero-fare bus service on the South Shore starting Sunday, April 12.

While they already had plans in place for a free system to help eliminate traffic, the rollout is sooner than expected in order to make travel safer in response to COVID-19 by eliminating fare exchanges between drivers and riders.

South Lake Tahoe man arrested after leading police on pursuit

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A 26-year-old man was arrested Thursday night after allegedly leading officers from the South Lake Tahoe Police Department (SLTPD) on a pursuit through the Ski Run neighborhood.

At approximately 10:45 p.m., an SLTPD sergeant noticed the driver of a small motorcycle fail to stop at a stop sign at Spruce Avenue and Ski Run Boulevard. The motorcycle was also without a license plate attached, according to reports.

South Tahoe High ALLY Club keeps track of SnowGlobe lost and found items

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - One can only imagine the amount of lost and found items accumulated during three days of a music festival where thousands of people attend.

To help with that at the SnowGlobe Music Festival, the South Tahoe High School Ally Club was recruited to operate the Lost & Found booth at the event. In return, Chad Donnelly, the founder and CEO of SnowGlobe, gives the club a donation to help with the club's activities.

Choices for Children holding Winter of Warmth clothing and accessory drive

Choices for Children will be able to give away winter clothing and accessories to the youngest and most vulnerable members of the community due to a grant they received from the El Dorado Community Foundation (EDCF) for their Winter of Warmth (W.O.W.) initiative.

Community agencies including child care providers, social workers, and Head Start teachers can soon refer families of children ages 0-5 (not yet in TK or Kindergarten) to get the boots, gloves, socks and snow clothes that they need.

We provide: Snacks, refreshments, gloves, training, equipment and a lunch voucher for all volunteers.

Join Tahoe Climbing Coalition at Eagle Lake trail clean up

To celebrate the beginning of climbing season the Tahoe Climbing Coalition is sponsoring a garbage and micro-trash pick-up on the Eagle Lake trail on National Trails Day, Saturday, June 1 at 10:00 a.m.

Come with water (reusable bottle), sun protection and gloves, and they'll provide the rest. They will be meeting at the parking lot/trailhead of Eagle Falls.

The clean-up will be followed up with a crag meet-up at the 90-foot wall.

If you choose to park in the parking lot at Eagle Falls bring $5 exact change for parking. There is limited parking along SR89 outside the parking lot.

Sierra House Elementary school would like to publicly thank Barton Hospital for helping us celebrate Earth Day. The hospital donated latex gloves so that all of our students could pick up trash around our campuses and keep their hands clean while doing it!

High Sierra Softball kicked off Opening Day 2019 this weekend at South Tahoe High’s Field Of Dreams. With registration up 30 percent from last year, the High Sierra Board would like to thank and share the generosity of a local business and service club who are helping the athletes in our league participate to their fullest.

Blue Zone Sports donated 12 softball gloves to the league.

"Many of our kids don’t have any equipment or are using their grandpa's old baseball glove," said Board President, Chris Chandler. "This donation is very thoughtful and essential for our players."
