Toys and food needed for Community Toy Drive

For 26 years it was known as the "Tahoe Toy Drive" and motorcycles full of toys for local children would move through South Lake Tahoe in an effort to stock the toy shelves at Christmas Cheer.

The name has changed but the mission is the same.

Now known as the Community Toy Event, the local toy and food drive to benefit Christmas Cheer will take place on Saturday, October 7 at the American Legion Hall starting at noon.

The South Tahoe Association of Realtors is now sponsoring the event with the American Legion Post 795 and Ladies Auxiliary.

Christmas Cheer has provided thousands of toys and meals to local families over the years and recently has seen an increase in the number of families in need of assistance. Stop by the American Legion Hall on October 7, starting at noon, and bring one new, unwrapped toy and or non-perishable food item.

There will be food, raffles, live music and a $10 Oktoberfest meal. The American Legion's address is 2746 Lake Tahoe Boulevard in South Lake Tahoe.
