It's official: NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ coming to Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/11/2021 - 5:43pmLAKE TAHOE, Nev./Calif. - It's been a plan in the works for months and today the National Hockey League (NHL) made it official - they are bringing NHL Outdoors at Lake Tahoe™ to Edgewood Tahoe February 20-21, 2021.
Bridgestone NHL Outdoors Saturday will showcase the Colorado Avalanche and the Vegas Golden Knights on Feb. 20. Honda NHL Outdoors Sunday will feature the Philadelphia Flyers and the Boston Bruins on Feb. 21. Both games will be broadcast at 3:00 p.m. ET on NBC in the United States and on Sportsnet and TVA Sports in Canada.
Earn entries for Tahoe Chamber Go Local program with donations to Christmas Cheer

The Tahoe Chamber has teamed up with a chamber member who is matching donations of food and cash given to Christmas Cheer this season up to $1,500.
All donating with locally purchased items and donated funds are eligible for the Chamber's Go Local Passport program. Spending locally gives the donator entries into the passport's $500 grand prize.
What is needed most this week at Christmas Cheer are hams and turkeys.
Bread & Broth 4 Kids adjusts weekly food program for South Lake Tahoe youth

Bags will be on the school buses (schedule below) on Wednesdays when school is in session (no delivery December 23 and 30). When school resumes to in person instruction, this schedule will adjust to fit the need and school schedules.

The severity and duration of his addiction to alcohol was almost entirely hidden from his friends and family. He passed just hours before family intended to bring him to a medical detoxification facility.
South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge donates $1000 to Family Resource Center
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/30/2020 - 2:59pmOver the past ten years, the South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge has donated 50 Christmas food boxes annually to local families, delivering the boxes in recent years to the South Lake Tahoe Family Resource Center for distribution to families in need.
These boxes contained a complete Christmas Ham dinner for a family of four, plus enough extra food to last for several additional meals. But, due to the Covid-19 pandemic, this year the Lodge was unable to hold its normal fundraisers and food collections to put the boxes together.

In addition to the regular bags filled with fresh fruit and vegetables, milk, eggs, butter, bread and pastries, 170 holiday meal “fixings” bags were handed out in the foyer of St. Theresa Grace Hall. The Thanksgiving meals went to 549 very grateful individuals and family members.
Bread & Broth provides Thanksgiving bags of food for over 500 local residents
Submitted by paula on Mon, 11/23/2020 - 11:17pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The volunteers at Bread & Broth packed bags of food for the community Monday, bags full of food for not only a Thanksgiving meal, but for meals through the week.
From 3:00 p.m. to 5:30 p.m. on November 23, almost 200 people picked up bags for their families containing a turkey breast, yams, green beans, rolls, stuffing, pumpkin pie, sparkling apple cider, fruit, vegetables, eggs, milk and much more. Those bags of food went to feed 549 individuals in the South Lake Tahoe community.
South Lake Tahoe and El Dorado County join much of the state in the purple tier of COVID-19 restrictions

This date has been changed from the county's previously announced noon on Thursday.

During past Thanksgiving holidays, Bread & Broth has sponsored a hot Thanksgiving turkey dinner with all the trimmings, once that guests could enjoy with the fellowship of others in the community. During those dinners over 250 individuals joined in the special holiday meal.
This year will have to be different due to the COVID-19 restrictions.

Back to School for some in South Lake Tahoe on Monday

Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) will start the process of getting kids back into the classroom on Monday, October 12.
They will make the shift from Phase 1 to Phase 2 and a hybrid schedule with elementary students attending either Monday and Tuesday (Cohort A) or on Thursday and Friday (Cohort B), all days with a four-hour schedule. The rest of the time will be distance learning.

Lake Tahoe Unified School District revamps food delivery bus schedule
Submitted by paula on Sat, 09/12/2020 - 8:25amSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) Meal Delivery schedule for Phase 1 Distance learning is being changed starting Monday, September 14. At the beginning of the school year there were seven buses and, based on figures from the first two weeks, routes have been adjusted and there are now five buses.
The buses are loaded with breakfasts and lunches and each student can stop by a bus stop or one of the four selected school sited to pick the meals up Monday-Friday (unless a school holiday).
LTUSD school breakfast and lunch program free through December

Earlier this week they had issued instructions on how to pay for meals and submit income verification applications for free or reduced price meals, but these are no longer required.

Bread & Broth 4 Kids moves from summer program to school year bags of food

Bags will be available to qualified families at four school sites (Sierra House, Bijou, Tahoe Valley and South Tahoe Middle School) and school bus stop locations every Friday beginning September 4. As the bus drivers deliver breakfast and lunch to the students, the bags will be handed out.

With the City of South Lake Tahoe canceling their events through September, and added restrictions added by the state of California, the Boys & Girls Club of Lake Tahoe has announced they are canceling its annual Tahoe Brewfest for 2020. The event is normally held in June and was moved to September due to the rise in COVID-19, and now the new date is June 5, 2021.
Douglas County School District reopening plans approved by board

Never skipping a beat, Bread & Broth moved from serving hot meals twice a week at St. Theresa Church Grace Hall to giving away bags of food including fresh produce, dairy and eggs from the hall's foyer.
They also changed their weekly food backpack program from schools to bus stops, and now the Bread & Broth 4 Kids program gives away food each week from that same foyer.

Since local schools closed in March due to the coronavirus, Bread & Broth 4 Kids (BB4K) has provided weekly food bags to students at bus stops and schools in coordination with the Lake Tahoe Unified School District as they distributed daily meals. Some weeks the BB4K bags went to over 410 children.

96th birthday celebration for WWII tail gunner in South Lake Tahoe

Everyone is invited to "attend" his party by driving by with a cheer, a wave, an American flag, or any other birthday greeting. He will be at 2216 Dunlap Street in South Lake Tahoe from 3:30 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. and the public can join in a drive-by celebration of this WWII vet. The home is located a block from South Tahoe refuse.
South Lake Tahoe students show appreciation for meal delivery
Submitted by paula on Wed, 05/13/2020 - 12:03pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Students in the Lake Tahoe Unified School District (LTUSD) show their appreciation daily as the bus drivers deliver daily meals to bus stops and schools around South Lake Tahoe.
From March 18 to May 7, the LTUSD drivers have delivered 26,066 meals at their stops, Monday through Friday. The meals are prepared early each day by staff and sent out on buses to their appointed routes.
Some students recently sent the drivers some "thank you" cards to show their appreciation (see photos above).

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - A team of volunteers will be handing out sugar pine seedlings to students at four South Lake Tahoe school sites on Friday, April 24.
The Sugar Pine Foundation has given a box of seedlings to Bijou Community School, Sierra House Elementary, Tahoe Valley Elementary, and South Tahoe Middle School. The free seedlings will be given out when students pick up their meals between 11:00 a.m. and 1:00 p.m. while supplies last.
At Tahoe Valley, TRex will be on hand to hand out the sugar pines, and at the Middle School, meet Hans the service dog.
El Dorado County senior nutrition program offers drive-up meal service

The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center, along with others in the county are offering drive-up "Take-Out" meals for all El Dorado County residents age 60 and older. This gives its older adult clients the needed hearty and nutritional meals in a safe environment.

Their 31t annual Elegant Evening was slated to be held at Harrah's Tahoe on April 18 with a sit-down dinner, live music, and dancing, raffle, and auction. The venue closed and restrictions on meeting in groups of over 10 people were created, so what do you do with an event that brings together 500 community members?

Week full of virtual activities for 50th anniversary of Earth Day

Despite the current global situation, everyone can still celebrate the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day thanks to the team at The Tahoe Fund spearheaded a group via their Take Care program that has provided daily activities and challenges for students and parents to participate in over the course of the week.

Alpine County has first confirmed case of COVID-19

The individual is recovering at home and was never hospitalized.
Alpine County is located south of Lake Tahoe, has a population of 1,120 and is 743 square miles in size and includes Markleeville and Bear Valley.
An investigation has determined the person was exposed and acquired the infection in a location distant from Alpine County. This person and their household "have

Originally set for Sunday, June 7, it has been rescheduled to combine with the 18th annual Tour de Tahoe, set for Sunday, September 13, 2020. This due to the uncertainty of current and changing CDC coronavirus COVID-19 restrictions and mandates by national, state and county health agencies.
When times are tough, South Lake Tahoe volunteers and businesses step up

Base Camp Pizza has been one of those businesses that have helped out the community. On Friday they dropped off 120 pizzas, 75 salads and 100 pasta dishes to Bijou Community School for families there who were picking up kids' homework and other supplies to use for at-home study. Local girl scouts donated boxes of cookies to hand out.
Senior Citizen services and store hours in South Lake Tahoe
Submitted by paula on Fri, 03/20/2020 - 12:20pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - The threat of the novel coronavirus and COVID-19 is a scary one for all people, especially the more vulnerable citizens of the community including senior citizens.
The South Lake Tahoe Senior Center is closed but nutrition services are being provided on a "to go" basis. Those 60 and older can stop by Monday through Friday between 11:00 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. and get a hot meal to go for a $3 suggested donation. Their Meals on Wheels program serves about 80 seniors with hot meals delivered Monday through Friday.
Boys and Girls Club to offer hot supper to all kids under 18 starting Monday
Submitted by paula on Wed, 03/18/2020 - 4:53pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Starting on Monday, March 23, the Boys and Girls Club Lake Tahoe will be offering a FREE 'drive through HOT supper' from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Monday through Friday. All children under the age of 18 (or 19 if still enrolled fulltime in school) are eligible.
The meals will be distributed to kids in cars from outside their Al Tahoe main clubhouse on Lyons Avenue in South Lake Tahoe. If there is no car, kids can walk in, then leave. The Club is trying to keep human contact to a minimum.
LTUSD and Bread & Broth to deliver meals to South Lake Tahoe students

Key's Cafe offering free breakfast to South Lake Tahoe children

Starting Monday, the Keys Cafe is offering free breakfast to children in grades K-6th with 30 percent off for parents. Keys Cafe is located at 2279 Lake Tahoe Blvd. #2, South Lake Tahoe. It is behind Enterprise Rental Car near Tahoe Keys Blvd. The free offer is good from 8:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. M-F until April 1.

Over the years, the number of meals served weekly has changed, but currently, Bread & Broth (B&B) serves two meals, Monday Meal and Second Serving on Fridays, every week of the year. As an all-volunteer, non-profit organization, B&B relies on the generosity of time and monetary support from our local community to provide the wonderful and nutritious meals that are enjoyed by our dinner guests.
South Lake Tahoe and all other El Dorado County schools to close starting Monday

The decision was made for the safety and wellness of students, families, and school personnel due to the current threat of the world-wide coronavirus COVID-19. There are currently no confirmed cases of the virus in El Dorado County.
South Lake Tahoe Senior and Recreation Centers closing in response to COVID-19

The City of South Lake Tahoe is closing those activities per recommendations from Governor Newson's response to the threat of coronavirus-COVID 19.
At this time, the County Meals on Wheels program that operates out of the Senior Center will continue but the senior's in-person lunch program will cease for the time being.

Aging and caregiver educational series in South Lake Tahoe

The series will provide instruction and support for people who care for, or plan to care for, a family member or friend aged 60 years or older.
The educational series will be held at the Lake Tahoe Resort Hotel, located at 4130 Lake Tahoe Blvd in South Lake Tahoe, on Mondays from 1:00 p.m. to 3:00 p.m. on the following dates:

Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/24/2020 - 11:14pmSOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Thanks to the men and women of South Lake Tahoe Moose Lodge #1632 and Bread & Broth Team #3 volunteers, a wonderful meal was served to all of the dinner guests who attended the Monday Meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall February 17. The Moose Lodge sponsored their annual Adopt A Day (AAD) of Nourishment by donating $300 to cover the costs of the food and associated expenses necessary to provide the hot, full-course meal served at the dinner.

Submitted by paula on Mon, 02/17/2020 - 6:27pmThanks to Vail’s EpicPromise grant and the wonderful and incredible Heavenly Mountain Resort Ski Services team members, Bread & Broth’s (B&B) dinner guests enjoyed a wonderful and nutritious meal at St. Theresa Grace Hall on Monday, February 10. Thanks to the generous $300 donation provided by the EpicPromise foundation, the B&B cooks whipped up a tasty meal of Chicken Picante, baked potatoes, green beans, and an avocado salad and servings of a variety of delicious desserts.

Bread & Broth recipient of successful Tahoe Chamber Connect for a Cause donations
Submitted by paula on Mon, 01/27/2020 - 5:26pmBread & Broth and their Bread & Broth 4 Kids program received generous donations from the South Lake Tahoe community during last week's Tahoe Chamber Connect for a Cause Charity Mixer at the Hard Rock Casino Hotel.
More than 120 community members attended the January 23 mixer to raise money and food for the group that feeds almost 180 school-age students with a backpack of weekend food as well as hot meals for everyone on Monday and Friday evenings.
