Things not seen every day: Boat travels almost 60 feet on Kingsbury Grade

A boat moving down the roadway without a trailer isn't a normal sight, but on Kingsbury Grade near Lake Tahoe that is exactly what happened Friday afternoon near Logging Road Lane and Ansaldo Acres Road.

At 2:13 p.m. September 22, a 2012 Ford F-150 pick-up pulling a trailer and ski boat was traveling eastbound when the driver of a 2013 Chevy Impala traveling westbound crossed over the double yellow lines around a curve, striking the rear of the pick-up. The Impala then struck the left side of the trailer.

The boat broke loose from the trailer and it came to rest in the number one eastbound lane, 40-60 feet east of the point of impact.

Kids on the Douglas County school bus #10 heading up Kingsbury Grade from the lake saw the Ford right after impact, and said the boat started to "wobble."

Kingsbury Grade/SR-207 was closed for a short time as the boat was taken off the road and placed on a tow truck. Traffic was released at 4:35 p.m. according to South Shore resident Lisa Sutherland Kirkman who was stuck in the backup.

There were no injuries and Douglas County Sheriff's Office said the driver of the Impala was cited.
