Tahoe National Forest remains closed until King Fire is "out"

9/29/14 8 p.m. update - The King Fire is now 92% contained and has remained at 97.099 acres burned. More personnel has been released and there are now 3,401 remaining on the fire.

Mop up and patrol continued. Continued the demobilization of excess resources. Continued to backhaul excess equipment and trash. Fire suppression repair is ongoing. Homes and damaged buildings on White Meadows Road are being evaluated for future damage from possible mud and debris flows caused by the last two days of rain. Some homes and buildings are being prepared with sand bags by crews.

The fire is now being managed by Unified Command with Eldorado National Forest and CAL FIRE. The inciweb site that contained information about the fire for the past 14 days is now being closed. People can continue to follow on Facebook or return here for updates.

Saturday was the start of the hunting season and the Forest Service wanted to remind all Tahoe National Forest users, including hunters, that much of the area is still closed to the public.

The King Fire is now 87% contained and almost 5,000 firefighters remain on the scene. They are working on getting a containment line completely around the fire.

Due to the fire and related fire suppression and rehabilitation activities, the following routes have been closed since September 17 and continue to be closed until the King Fire is declared "out":

The Pacific Ranger District including:
· the west side of Desolation Wilderness
· Icehouse Road and Loon Lake Road, Crystal Basin area
· Wrights Lake Road
· Wentworth Springs
· Rubicon Jeep Trail

The Georgetown Ranger District including:
· Wentworth Springs Road, Stumpy Meadows
· Eleven Pines Road
· Darling Ridge
· Ralston Ridge Road
· Nevada Point Ridge
· Sand Mountain Road
· Hell Hole Reservoir area
· Dru Barner campground

Recreation sites on the Amador Ranger District are not affected by the closure.

Fire restrictions are still in effect. Open fires or stoves are prohibited unless in developed campgrounds. Forest Service staff will be patrolling to ensure compliance.
