A Caltrans water-quality improvement project on U.S. Highway 50 in South Lake Tahoe was honored last week during the Tahoe Regional Planning Agency’s 25th annual “Best of the Basin” awards.
The two-mile project from the Lake Tahoe Airport to the “Y” intersection with State Route 89 was recognized in the Environmental Improvement Program/Public Project category. Work, which was completed last fall, included constructing new drainage systems, building new curb, gutter and sidewalks, landscaping and repaving the highway. The primary contractor was Teichert Construction.
This is one of 17 Environmental Improvement Program projects that Caltrans will complete on highways all around the Lake Tahoe Basin by 2019 as part of its commitment to help protect Lake Tahoe by collecting and treating stormwater runoff before it enters the lake.
