Smoke alarms given away during South Lake Tahoe Fire Department's Open House

As part of National Fire Prevention Week, the South Lake Tahoe fire stations will open their doors to the public for a day of information, activities, contests and gifts.

The first ever South Lake Tahoe Fire Department Open House will be held on Saturday, October 11 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. All three city fire stations will be open with interactive activities for community members. Each person attending can have a passport signed at each fire station. Those with all three fire station's staff signing their passport will have a chance to win prizes. The Grand Prize is a Fire Station Dinner for Four!

Everyone attending will also receive a free smoke alarm courtesy of Meeks Hardware.

Fire Station #1 is located at 1252 Ski Run Blvd.
Fire Station #2 is located at 2951 Lake Tahoe Blvd.
Fire Station #3 is located at 2101 Lake Tahoe Blvd.

Fire Prevention Week was established to commemorate the Great Chicago Fire, the tragic 1871 conflagration that killed more than 250 people, left 100,000 homeless, destroyed more than 17,400 structures and burned more than 2,000 acres. The fire began on October 8, but continued into and did most of its damage on October 9, 1871.
