City encourages businesses to Light Up South Lake Tahoe

Looking to drum up holiday spirit, the city of South Lake Tahoe is calling for a partnership among local businesses to create the first “Light up South Lake Tahoe” event over Thanksgiving weekend. The idea is to have every business on Highway 50 lit up end to end from the big tree at the “Y” to Stateline for the entire holiday season.

A kickoff to get it started will be on Saturday, Nov. 24 when South Lake Tahoe Fire Department will have an engine decorated with white holiday lights for a 6 p.m. procession through the city. As the fire engine passes a business, the business will turn on their lights and participate in “Lighting up South Lake Tahoe.” The festivities will conclude at the “Y” with the annual tree lighting, along with hot cocoa and cookies.

Here's more from a city-issued press release:

The city has purchased industrial grade, heavy duty clear mini light sets from a local business. We would like to offer businesses one (1) set of lighting for FREE when they buy one (1) 50 foot set of lighting for only $12.00. That’s 100 feet of lighting to decorate your store front for only $12.00!

The City is advertising for this event to our “drive up” markets in an effort to increase visitors to our community. Our goal is to have all businesses along Highway 50 lit up for the Holiday Season, and what a better way to do it than all on the same day….at the same time!

To become part of this holiday event, please contact Tina Shannon at (530)542-6016 or tshannon@cityofslt.us by Friday, November 2nd. City staff will be delivering the lights to businesses 7-10 days before the Thanksgiving holiday weekend or the lights can be picked up in advance at the City Offices at the airport.
