Virtual Meyers Community Tree Lighting Celebration Friday

Ring in the holiday season with the Meyers Community Foundation and enjoy their virtual tree lighting celebration on Friday, December 4 at 6:00 p.m.

To comply with COVID-19 safety precautions they moved the annual tradition to Facebook. It can be watched live here - www.facebook.com/MeyersCommunity/live.

The Virtual Meyers Community Tree Lighting Celebration will feature comedian and radio show host Howie Nave doing the annual countdown to light the very special tree. Lake Valley Fire District will join in and illuminate the holiday spirit.

Christmas Tree goes up at Heavenly Village

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif - It was a true community effort to get the Christmas Tree delivered to the Heavenly Village in South Lake Tahoe last week. For the third consecutive year, a tree was selected from the South Shore to be on display for the holiday season.

On Monday, November 16, 2020 the 64-foot tree was cut down by Kenny Curtzwiler of K & K Services at 6:30 a.m., lifted by a crane and placed onto a flatbed truck, escorted by South Lake Tahoe Police and CHP, driven to its destination, lifted off the truck and placed into a stand to be decorated.

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Heavenly Village will once again be putting up a 70-foot cut tree and lighting it during a special tree lighting ceremony on Friday, November 27 at 8:00 p.m.

On hand for the free and public event will be Congressman Tom McClintock and Former State Senator and current member of the California Board of Equalization Ted Gaines.

Heavenly Village is located one block west of the state line at 1001 Heavenly Village Wat in South Lake Tahoe.

Santa arrives at community tree lighting at Edgewood

The inaugural Tree Lighting Celebration at Edgewood Tahoe took place on Saturday night with a packed house welcoming in the season with jolly ole' Santa Claus.

As Santa descended the grand stairs in the Lodge at Edgewood with Mrs. Santa, members of the South Tahoe Choral Association sang Christmas songs to the gathered crowd.

"For Edgewood it's about creating memories," the resort's GM Corinna Osborne said as she flipped the switch to light the tree.

Heavenly Village Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in the Heavenly Village for the first time ever on Friday, November 23 at 7:00 p.m. The Heavenly Village is located in South Lake Tahoe at 1001 Heavenly Village Way. Ceremony includes carolers, music and special visit by Santa Claus, all until 9:00 p.m.

Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony at St. Theresa Catholic Church

The entire community is invited to the St. Theresa Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony on Saturday, December 1 at 6:30 p.m. in front of the church located at 1041 Lyons Avenue.

There will be a potluck in Grace Hall after the ceremony. Families are encouraged to bring a dish and drinks to share. If your last name begins with A-M bring a main dish; N-T bring desserts and U-Z bring Fruits, finger foods or soft drinks.

60-foot South Lake Tahoe community tree cut for Heavenly Village

SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. - Rockefeller Center in New York City has a Christmas tree as a backdrop for all holiday activities in the Big City since 1933, and now South Lake Tahoe is starting what hopes to be an annual tradition. Standing at 60-feet, the local version isn't quite as big as their neighbor on the East Coast (which runs 60-100 feet and can weigh close to 30,000 pounds), but it serve as a place to warm hearts and be a center of holiday photos and fun.

The Crossing in South Lake Tahoe starts renovations

"The Factory Stores at the Y" are being transformed into "The Crossing at Tahoe Valley," with demolition crews on site dismantling parts of the building to accommodate a new design as they prepare for new tenants.

Caroling, Santa, food and museum tours all part of Holiday in History

A special holiday treat in South Lake Tahoe will be held on Saturday, December 19 when the public can enjoy the lighted Christmas truck, Santa and Mrs. Claus, latkes and cookies, carolers and tours of the decorated museum and cabin during the Holiday in History Open House.

The annual Lake Tahoe Historical Society event will be held at the museum located at 3058 Lake Tahoe Blvd from 11 a.m. to 7:30 p.m.

The Victorian Christmas scene is spread throughout the museum and the historic cabin.

Community comes out for parade, tree lighting and Santa

The annual Light Up Lake Tahoe parade led people through town Saturday night on their way to light the Christmas tree at the Y. Carolers kept the crowd entertained, as did cocoa and cookies, as they waited for Santa to arrive via fire truck.

With temperatures sitting at 30 degrees, bundled up children and their parents, and local community members counted down the flipping of the switch for the tree which will stay lit through the holidays.

The City of South Lake Tahoe is encouraging all businesses that line Highway 50 to decorate their store fronts for the upcoming holidays.

On Saturday, December 5, the City's Fire, Police and Snow Removal departments will be decorated and head to the "Y" along Highway 50 from Stateline, starting at 6 p.m. As in years past, they wat to see businesses turn on their lights as the procession goes by, creating a wave of light through South Lake Tahoe.

Sierra-at-Tahoe gets 21" of snow to start off Sierra Solstice Celebration

The Sierra-at-Tahoe ski resort just west of South Lake Tahoe received 21" of snow during Friday's storm, setting up some good snow for their Solstice Celebration. The official first day of winter starts on Sunday, December 21 but Sierra-at-Tahoe got a head start with live music and a tree lighting ceremony.

Crowds turn out for "LIghts Up South Lake Tahoe"

The annual procession of decorated City vehicles and other participants made it's way down Lake Tahoe Blvd on Saturday night, much to the delight of people along the parade route and at the tree lighting ceremony at the end.

As the row of cars and trucks passed by local businesses, those adorned with lights turned them on like one moving light switch.

At the "Shops at the Y" people gathered to watch the tree lightening ceremony along with treats and photos with Santa.

Holiday in History adds new events for a weekend full of activities

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society invites the community to their annual "Holiday in History" event December 13-14. They will have a Victorian Christmas scene in the museum, free tours of the 1930's log cabin, a special phone with a direct line to the North Pole so kids can talk to Santa, refreshments and free giant snowflakes with qualifying purchases.

They will have both buildings open Saturday from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Third annual "Light Up South Lake Tahoe" and community tree lighting

What is becoming a new holiday tradition on the South Shore will be making its way through town on Saturday, December 6.

"Light Up South Lake Tahoe" is a procession through town of lit up city vehicles including a fire truck, police armoured vehicle and city works snow plow. The idea is, as the procession passes by each business they are to turn on their holiday lights.

For the last three years there has been a Meyers community Tree lighting ceremony but in order to have the fourth annual event many Christmas lights are needed.

During a lightning storm this year, most of the lights were destroyed. In order to replaced them, the Meyers Community Foundation is raising money.

The tree lighting ceremony is scheduled for Friday, December 5 at 5 p.m. Everyone is invited to see Santa arrive on a special sled, enjoy cookies, popcorn and hot chocolate and help light the tree's 10,000 lights.

The Lake Tahoe Historical Society invites everyone to their annual Holiday in History Open House on Saturday and Sunday, December 7-8.
